This phrase from a Dave Hobby post on The Strobist sure brings back some memories.
I've become so spoiled with digital over the past 10 years, I almost forgot what we used to go through to use "analog Photoshop" in the 1960's, 70's and 80's.
I'm not sure I could ever go back, even if I had to.

What a great article, thanks. I got interested in photography hanging out with my dad in his darkroom back in the mid-70's and remember watching him do some of those same tricks. We pulled many all-nighters trying get "the shot" just right on paper. :)
Definitely a good article. It went wrong for me because my Zenit all manual SLR camera would not advance the film consistently enough. 1mm min up to 4mm max between the exposures, OK for negs or slides, but no good for running the film through again! I always found ASA 1600 was about the limit for XP5 film, given that I had no zoom lens so often had to crop and blow up a good deal.
I didn't have to make a living at it, so it never really mattered when it went wrong! Happy days. The sad thing is i don't have many of the negs now. Never mind.
The pre-flashing was made easier on my 5x4 camera, sat on the touch-line at a soccer match. All the other 'Tricks of the Trade'in the darkroom were carried out normally. Pot' Ferry, was usually done after print was dried, and examined. Printing from wet(35mm) negs was mostly done for the daily sports pic's.

Pot ferry. Yes, I recall that moniker when buying the stuff. It was labeled K3Fe(CN)6.
I also used a lot of Potassium Bichromate.
I used to buy my chemicals directly from chemical supply houses (Winn Chemical in Brooklyn and Aldrich Chemical in Milwaukee) as it was much cheaper than buying from photo supply houses.
Oh yes! Reminds me of the late night Diafine dunk
I remember reading about this process but fortunately I never had to do it. Of course I did not shoot sports for a newspaper.

Or a little Borax in the D-76.

Or a sprinkle of Amidol, to boost the contrast.
I can't remember anything! Until someone says a name like Amidol and then suddenly it comes back!
Where are all those negs and slides anyway? Must be around here somewhere.....
Nope, I am not going to get drawn into a new project! I will find I am spending all my time reading UHH about the best scanner to buy. They can stay up in the loft for a bit longer!
It's a fine day out there. Quick grab my camera and fave lens......
