I received a message yesterday afternoon from a forum member who loaded CS2 from the Adobe website and had their computer in the shop for two weeks. I have read on here where several members have loaded it with no apparent ill effects but this is the first machine crash I have heard of. Has anyone else had issues with this load or heard from other members who have? I have loaded a portion of it myself with no problems but have not loaded the entire suite.
I downloaded CS2 from Adobe, works like a charm, no laptop problems what so ever. May have been coinkydink.
I can't say b.t I have suffered no ill effects
I have downloaded Photoshop CS2 to an old laptop running XP with no problems.

please enlighten me isnt CS2 7 year old software or am i confused
I downloaded most of the components of CS2 and they run very well together.
During the installation I did notice quite a few files which shared with my previous installs of Photoshop 7, Illustrator and Image Ready. I decided, since there were so many references to existing files, to leave the old files on the HD where they still remain.
I have not had any issues with the installation or runnig of the applications, but don't know if my leaving old files alone has helped.
I downloaded it to my daughters computer and it works great.

You are quite right, it is 7 years old. However, Adobe has made it available as maintenance for existing downloads in such a way as the suite or it's components can be loaded in it's entirety by anyone. While it is older software, it can be a very good way for new users to get a good feel for the Adobe product line before expending large sums of money on the software.

The member who originally contacted me used the link below that I, specifically, and others have posted here before. It links directly to a page on the Adobe website. Please feel free to check it out. I haven't had any problems but would appreciate any feedback.

Best way to get something you don't want is go through another site instead goin directly to that site. I downloaded cs2 long time ago never had a problem.

Ditto. Free version of CS2 downloaded 6 weeks ago, running on this lappy and XP with no probs at all.
Make sure you DL from Adobe and not a torrent.
My thanks to all of you who have responded to this thread. I have yet to hear what actually happened to the one member who had their computer in the shop for 2 weeks after downloading the CS2 load, but am becoming convinced it was more of a fluke or existing problem than an issue with Adobe's software or the link. My concern was whether I should stop recommending the software load as a way to use Photoshop for longer than 30 days. At this time I see no reason to stop that recommendation.
Only problem with older versions of CS is that they don't support Raw files from newer cameras. You can only update ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) so far. While I can work on the Raw files from my D70s with CS2, I can't do so with my D300 Raw files. Have to convert them to Tiff or DNG files first...
