I can report that there are jumpers here in the UK! Found this tiny (1-2mm) beauty in my back garden this afternoon. I know they're OOF but I had only a very short time before he grew impatient with my galumphing around him and he retreated into his hole. I'll get him sharp tomorrow. Is he a zebra jumper?

I think that I'll make use of those 10fps next time and hope for a pin-sharp one on the eyes. A headlight pic of this one will be nigh on impossible I think due to the angle he's at. These were taken with a 100mm macro lens.

would reverse stacking help me at all or would it shorten my MWD too much? I don't want to get too close in case I squash him.

I now realise how difficult getting those amazing shots you guys get will be. I will probably never get there but I will try!

Salticus scenius. According to the web named after their pronounced reaction to human approach. That explains it retreating when I made too much of a din trying to get to it. Cloudy today so 'Sheldon' isn't coming out today. It must be a juvenile as it was about the size of 2 grains of sugar.

Very good point Tom, I can't get over just how amazing the macro world is and it's taken me this long to stop to take a look. And to have this guy resident in my garden is just fantastic! I just hope the family of tits also living in the garden don't have him for breakfast. I think he's too small for them though.

Like Tom mentioned some of the best shots are with these little guys as the DOF covers most of the spider. Reverse stack will put you even closer then the MWD you have now. These guys are curious and at times will stop and watch you. I always start about 10inches away with my lens then move in. They will normally see themselves in the Lens and most of the time jump onto your lens, but this keeps them around and curious. Others up and run as soon as they see you. I try to coral them with my hand sending them back towards the lens.. Patience X 10. Your making progress, keep up the good work.

Thanks fstop22;I will get the headlight shot as I've realised how to do it now - edge-on to the wood and just focus forwards to the spider (and of course concentrate on the eyes). Why it didn't occur to me before I have no idea! All I need is for him to look in my direction.
