OK, so you don't like controversial, so here's a straight shot.

Taken at Christmas, the young lady was entertaining Children by making balloon animals.

Shot at low level, which I do frequently, no PSEing, just cropped slightly in camera to my taste.

P mode, matrix balanced fill-flash, with my standard street settings, I'm not worried about shadow detail, so I over expose and lift sharpness and colour for impact.

Nikon d3100, standard zoom, built in flash.
Out of the box with Nikons default settings, this is not a good performer. However, if you persevere and reset almost everything it can be made to achieve far better results.

The d7000 is better because you can store 2 sets of changes and switch between them instantly. Another reason to upgrade.

So, do you like this 'snap shot' or is it too bright for your taste?

At least it is not at all like my previous posts!

No...I don't like it.

1.) Deer in the headlights flash

2.) Teeth color

3.) Oversaturated reds

4.) Underexposed

5.) Background looks fake.

thanks for your feedback

no.s 1 3 4 I think are valid but deliberate.

5 was not, However I consider 2 to be a personal attack on the model and is not warranted.

If you posted a photo of your wife/girlfriend/family member etc who was overweight would it be in order for me to say I didn't like the image because she is fat-No it would not.

OK so you would have P/s the teeth, but it would not then be a true representation of the subject

By all means criticise the photo and technique but not the subject. Shame on you.

If there are further such remarks, I will withdraw the image.

I guess to each his own...I don't think that they are flattering.

It's not...so don't take it that way...everyone needs touch up and I have yet to photograph anyone who had such bright white teeth that they didn't need SOME touch up...myself included.

I wouldn't expect you to...but that's not what I said...I said that the teeth should have been touched up a bit...that's all...don't be defensive.

No picture is a "true" representation of a subject...it can't be ..it's a snapshot of a moment in time...and I don't even think that it should be most of the time.

Again..I wasn't criticising the subject...I was pointing out that post processing was needed. I would say the same if there were hair wisps....or facial blotches (I have blotchy red skin in photographs and ALWAYS need touch up)

Do whatever you want.

Attention each and all.

I have just been contacted by a friend who has pointed out the American phobia on Non-white teeth. I was not aware of this and so if my posting has offended anyone please accept my apologies.

I have learned something which in future I will bear in mind and now understand the previous remarks were not meant in the context that they were received.

Thank you for your kind reply, it is appreciated, and a personal sorry for 'jumping down your throat'. I must learn to be more aware of the cultural differences.

I think it's a good unposed shot showing someone having fun with what she is doing. Thanks for posting.

As for the teeth controversy...seems to me that a lass with bright red lipstick blowing up balloons is bound to get some on her pearly whites. Perhaps that was what happened here as all the teeth are not the same color.

Anyway, it is a nice photo. 8-)

Edit: Just read the previous couple of posts. Glad to see everyone getting along. That is interesting about the alleged American obsession concerning white teeth. I do wish to point out, however, that JR1 was the poster who originally mentioned yellow teeth. So perhaps it isn't much of a cultural difference after all. :D

Thanks for your comments, I'm a bit upset over the whole issue, perhaps I should stick to controversial photos, they are less controversial.

I like both your controversial and non-controversial photos. Don't be upset, it's easier to go with the flow. The bottom line is it's a forum populated by all sorts of folks you do not know and probably will never know. :-)
