Hello to everyone today. I am sure all you canon users may know about the backyard eos app to where you can tether your camera to your desktop/laptop. If not got to backyardeos.binaryrivers.com . This allows you to tether your camera and live view thru your computer and shoot images. You can try this for free for 30 days to see if you like it before purchasing.
Okay, I want to do this wirelessly. What adapter do I need to get to accomplish this? I have a canon T4I . Thanks to all of you ahead of time for any and all replies. Tim p.s. I am looking for anyone that has done this and for info on specific device you have used. Thanks again.

You can tether any current model Canon DSLR to a laptop or PC using the Eos Utility program supplied free with the camera.

Wireless tether for live view? How deep are your pockets? I'll leave the gadget geeks to answer that.

Personally, the only after market tethering app that has made sense for me is DSLR Remote Pro for my iPad. It allows me to adjust all of my manual settings, Live View my composition, shoot stills and video, and store on any combination of iPad, computer, and camera. You cable your camera to a computer, then walk around freely with the iPad. I find it useful in two settings. First, when working alone and posing portraits, it makes it easier to make fine adjustments without having to go back and forth to the camera to check for shadows, wierd angles, etc. Second, while doing product photography, it allows me to stay in my lightbox and position and shoot without all the back and forth. For $50 it has saved me countless steps.

Canon's EOS Utility is a very useful software solution that comes bundled with every EOS DSLR camera. It offers a range of functionality for photographers to control their camera remotely from a computer tethered with a USB or Firewire cable.

Hi again, Okay,I am totally familiar with the eos utility and tethering my camera. I do appreciate the responses yet I am looking to live view and control the camera wirelessly as I stated above. I have tried hard wiring with usb extentions yet need to be about 50 feet or more from camera and with that length of usb cable, the signal degrades. I was informed that a wifi card only allows you to transfer your images and you cannot do live view that way. Really want to do this.
Astro imaging is my passion now and simplifying it in this way makes it more enjoyable in the winter. Would be nice also for remote viewing and shooting near a bird feeder. Guess I could get a hold of Canon support and ask them. I was hoping that someone here on the hog has accomplished this already. Thanks again for your input. Tim

Backyard EOS was designed for astrophotography. There is a large support group and forum for individuals using the program. You can get a lot more answers from them.

I have heard great things about DSLR Remote Pro. Myself trying out now backyard EOS trial version. The only problem with these solutionsis tethering to a PC. I don't want my PC out there for raccoons to jump it.

I am also looking for something that lets me control the camera from inside in the coziness of the house while the camera is out there in the cold of the night, saving to SD card. Not interested in saving directly to PC. Of what I have read, IMO, I think that the solution is DSLR Remote.

---Backyard, where is the manual? --- Don't think I will go for it though it has lots of features and saves to PC.

Try an USB active extension cable. Amazon has a variety of lengths that you could try.

I have already tried this. Does not work for the distance I need,50 feet. The signal degrades to much and not useable. That is why I am looking for a wireless application, adapter. Thanks , anyway. Tim

Wireless tethering is what I am looking to do. I need a distance of 50 feet and hard wire tethering at that distance does not work because of the signal degradation. Also I do not want to have to keep an eye on my mount to make sure I don't have wire wrap. This would occur when hooked up to my computerized German equatorial CG5 telescope mount. Thinking about and option that a friend of mine has. He built a blue tooth device that would allow me to do live view shooting. Checking it out.

Thanks to all who have replied. Does Nikon have the ability to wirelessly tether their cameras for live view and operation?? If so why wouldn't Canon have the same option? You would think that with all the technology we have nowadays this would be an option on all DSLr's. Tim
