Flower in a flower

Don't know what this is called. Saw this in Italy along the coast....

Bougainvillaea. The flower is whitish-pink; the red leaves are called bracts.

Very beautiful flowers the perfume is gorgeous. I have seen them in Italy and Sardinia.

Very beautiful flowers the perfume is gorgeous. I have seen them in Italy and Sardinia.


Yeah they are gorgeous. They were native to South America but they are now grown all over the world. They thrive here in Australia and I have around 10 different specimens growing over my fences. You have to be careful with them though. In a warm damp climate like mine they are rampant and need regular pruning which is a problem because they have very long nasty thorns all over the stems. I have the scars to prove it. Nice pic by the way, the colours are exactly right.
