I had the house to myself today and managed to turn the kitchen into a little studio - pulled this lump of driftwood in from the garden and set up my tripod.
I used photmatix to merge 3 images and quite liked the result - hope you do too ?
It almost looks like a cliff side! Pretty cool:)
Thank you both for looking. I just have a bridge camera so it's all a challenge but I'm so enjoying trying out the advice I pick up here.

Nothing wrong with using a bridge camera, sometimes they are more convenient than carrying loads of lenses.
My bridge is a Fuji Finepix S100fs.
It's a Fuji s4400, great wee camera but it struggles to focus sometimes when working close up. Thank you for your encouragement glad I found the close up forum.

It should be possible to use manual focus, which will stop it hunting for focus.
