Nikon SB-400 on P7700?

Anyone know if the SB-400 can be operated in manual mode on the P7700?
The "manual" says only on the D40 but that is patently outdated.
(Yes,I tried asking Nikonusa but got frustrated trying to sign in.)

When I get back on the desktop, I'll try nikonusa again. (My little finger is not attached and that makes typing on the iPad a chore.)

I cannot address whether it will work Manual Mode on the P7700-- but is the manual stating that it will only work on the D40 in the manual mode-- or is it saying that the D40 is the only model on which the SB400 will work in the manual mode? That is, it will not in work in manual on any other Nikon camera.
I only shoot manual with flash so that is fatal for my traveling gear.
I'm still hoping this is simply a very outdated manual.

Terrific! The P7700 does provide CLS and I have three SB flashes that would work but I'm trying to strip down for travel. The D600 with all it's gear is just too much to lug around. (I'm 84) I can use a light white board for bounce in a pinch. With your help, I'm confident enough to get the 400 . Thanks!
