I am trying to set up a very small studio in my home and I want to provide very good quality prints. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at different reviews and they kind of coflict. Budget limit around $600. Not that I want to spend that much!

I'll share that after 3-4 different HP printers (that all broke in some form or fashion) I switched to Epson. I'm not looking back. I love the results I'm getting. I recognize this isn't very technical, and all I'm doing is suggesting that you go to the Epson site and consider their offerings.

I'll second brucewells recommendation and while you are on the Epson website do visit their factory recondition/refurbished store. I purchased a V500 scanner there with no shipping and no sales tax !!! Graet scanner by the way !!!

B&H has the Canon Pro 100 on sale plus $100.00 rebate card. $200.00 card if you buy certain 13x19 papers.

Mine arrives today, so can not give review yet.

I have read some very conflicting reviews on canon printers. But almost all reviews point out the high cost of ink and the rate that the printers use it up. Let me know more as you try it.

Check out Canon Pixma Pro 9000 III. Should be less than your budget. Great colors & prints up to 13x19

That is one of the printers reviewed on line. (Top 10 printers) most said the resultswere the same. Great prints but slow printing and expensive ink but worth the cost. I am considering this one.

There are rebate deals on the Pro9000 that make its final price to you about $250. Can't beat it for photo quality and value. Check Amazon for the deals under their other buying choices section.

I have the Pro9000, and you really can't beat it for gorgeous prints. Main problem is that the ink volume required to make a 13x19 print is expensive ... But it's well worth it.

I have never heard of a Mark III, and looked it up on Amazon and don't see it yet. Did they release a Mark III or did you make a typo? :)

One nice feature of some of the Epson printers is the ability to print on CD or DVD disks. For my home printing I use an Epson Artisan 1430 which is on the low end of medium format photo printers but it produces beautiful prints that are more accurate in color than many of the commercial printers in my area...

I wanted to be able to print on disks so that pretty much ruled out Canon. I have had Canon photo printers in the past that also produced beautiful photos. I think it comes down to features as both brands are going to do well for you.

Another thing to think about is most of the bulk ink systems out there (that are photo worthy) seem to prefer the Epson printers for compatibility. Don't know why.... I'm just mentioning it because you have brought up the cost of ink. There are quality 3rd party inks out there (and I'm sure there's crap out there too)

Thank you. By all counts, I am sure I'll go with one of the two. Have to do some number crunching. Those are the only two brands mentioned.
