My understanding is that Windows 8 is not for conventional desktop/laptop use. It is for tablets. The scanner works with XP and should work with Vista. Do not know about 7.

Well, I am writing this on a WIN8 laptop and it works just fine, my desktop is WIN7. If the scanner was supported in newer operating systems I would love to buy it. But . . .
