I would not buy one, but that's because I have better models in my bag already.
The reviews are not bad for a medium size/duty ball head.

But I have learned that it is smarter and cheaper to rent stuff for a few days before buying it to see if it really meets your needs. Buying anything blind, no matter if someone else likes it (compared to what?), you are taking a bit of a gamble.

Here is the same ball head available for rent for 4 days for $13. That is cheaper than discovering you don't like it and even after paying shipping to return it you can make a more informed decision.

This is my new paradigm after years (decades) of buying things that ended up in my closets and were never used.
Try before you buy!

I really can't speak for the ball head as I only bought the tripod legs (Vanguard). The tripod I bought is very rugged and I am impressed with the quality. I'd put it up against my Bogen or my Manfrotto tripods. I did check the reviews at B&H Photo regarding the ball head you asked about and it gets good reviews. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=vanguard+ball+head&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search=

Having gone down the long expensive route of cheap tripods and heads graduating to a decent one IMHO I would now only look at RRS, Acratech, Swis Arca. It will last a life time and you will never need to change or upgrade what ever glass and camera you are using.
Its cheaper to get a good one at the start I have a cupboard full of cheap unuseable tripods and heads .
A good head is also far quicker to use

The GH-100, GH-200, and GH-300 get really great reviews; that's the pistol grip version of this...those that own them love them...I'd check youtube for reviews if it were me.

I bought that same head for my daughters mono pod, which she took to Greece, China, Italy, Alaska , and Yellow knife Canada...she loved it and had no issues. Used it with her D5100 and a couple weighted teli's.

I've got the GH-200 Pistol Grip head by Vanguard. It's my primary mount and I like it a lot. Easy to use, smooth, and solid. Easily handles my 100-400 L telephoto w/camera.

I have the SBH-100 Ballhead. It handles my Sony a580 with 70-400 zoom (lens is 3.3 lbs) quite well. Smooth and solid.
