wondering if anyone is using windows 10 and how lightroom 5.7 works in it?

Hello datsmar... Yes I've been using Windows 10 since it was first introduced.. My Grandson, who also writes computer programing. Not only told me I should download the free version, but proceeded to do it for me. Other than a few minor differences, I was running Windows 7, and that mainly in the startup menu I can't say I like it more or less than what was running before... But then I'm still running Lightroom 3.6. Of course Window does still support it.. lol..

5 D mark IV to come out. Really want something for low light and night photography.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Ronsh.. I bought my 5D Mark II brand new and I still haven't conquered all the features on it. Bodies come and go... If you find one you like just use it until... I've yet to find a low light situation that I can't capture what I want. For me the quality of the glass is paramount.

I understand the larger opening of the aperture and the smaller F-stop number the more you can blur the background.
My question is how does the focal affect the it.

Hi Brenz:
Try this website from Cambridge in Colour... I does a pretty good job of explaining depth of field, with some pretty good graphics... http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm If this site doesn't help I can give you a couple more refrences that might explain it better..

Hi Jackinthebox:
I own the Canon 100-mm macro lens, and it is one of my favorite. It is also great for general photography.. I also have the 12mm, 20mm and 36mm Kenko Extension tubes which really help with macro photography. I bought my Canon 100mm f/2.8 usm Macro, used through Craig's List, he had purchased it from one of the better online suppliers like KEH the year before and decided macro photography wasn't his cup of tea.

Thinking of buying this lens. I have heard nothing but good reviews. My question, Is this the right lens I should be getting. The reason I want to get it is for the shallow depth of field. I just love the blurred out back ground. I would also like to get some what of more zoom lens. I have the Canon 6D with a 24-105 f.4 lens. My photos are more of up the coast, family and street photos. thanks. Brenda

Hi brenz.. let me suggest this website on Canon lenses... It's easy to follow and understand... I own the 70-200 1: 28 L series lens Fantastic lens with tack sharp focus, how ever it doesn't give me the reach I would like... I shoot with a full frame Canon Mark ll, which also makes a difference.. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html

Hello all from Ohio,
I'm new old stock to digital photography. I enjoyed my 35 mm Cannon t70 in the 80's but technology has put it the closet. I'm looking to jump back in and get updated. I'm a auto restorer and I'm needing a camera to take lots of pics of the process also enjoy aviation photos. I've been researching the Nikon d3200 or Cannon Rebel. Any suggestion would be great. I'll also surf around the forum for info
Thanks JD

Hi JD: My first question to you would be about your t70 lenses... Are they usable on the Canon Rebel.. If they have the red dot on them they should be... The alternative would to be buying both the Nikon d3200 plus lenses.. Just food for thought..

My wife and I were dining out with my nephew and his wife tonight. While we were waiting for our meals and chatting my nephew says I want to show you something.

So he opens up the web page for the company he works for, he runs a rock crusher. He tells me that while they were building an inroad to another rock deposit, his boss took some pictures with his phone to document the progress and include on his web page.

When he got home and downloaded them on to his site, this was what was on one of the photos. He has no explanation and apparently his wife is freaked.

Can anyone offer any serious explanation?

There are three figures in case you miss one.

Hi I recently purchased Canon T3i and using the kit lens 18-55mm. Im very new to the DSLR camera. I've been taking pictures and enjoying them but need more range. Im ready to get my next lens but im struggling with what to get. I want an all in one lens that will handle low light as well as day time scenes. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

Ive attached a few pics I've taken. One was taken with a bridge camera to get the range. I don't want to switch to another camera for longer shots.

I am going to upgrade to a new camera and was wondering which would be the best choice, a Nikon D3200 or a Cannon T3i. Both are in the price range that I can afford.I can purchase both bundled at Sams. The Nikon has more mega pixels (24) than the Cannon (18). The Cannon has a tilting led screen that is better for videos. Is there that much difference in the mega pixels for a non professional photographer? Each camera has its plusses and minuses. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with both who would be willing to share. I used to have a Minolta SRT 101 that was all manual so I have some experience in photography. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Hafmyne: Both cameras will offer you great shooting.. You will have supporters & detractors of both brands.. I happen to own & shoot a Canon 5D Markll Which is neither here nor there... Both make quality lenses.. Nikon tends to have for the most part, one high quality grade of lens while Canon offers a wide variety in the quality of lenses ranging from their kit lens to their "L" series professional lens... and the price to go with it... Keep in mind it's going to be the lens that will be your biggest investment... I own 5 different types of lens ranging from a kit telephoto to an "L" series telephoto, a plain old nifty 50 and a quality 100 mm Macro lens.. plus a 24 mm wide angle lens.. My suggestion would be to physically take both camera's in hand and try taking a few shots with each one.. See which is more comfortable for you to use.. The higher pixel count will only be really important if your planning on enlarging you pictures to poster size photos & I doubt the average person would notice that much difference even then.. Here is a great website explaining the different types & qualities of Canon lenses.. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html Hope this helps some.

You can say whatever you want. Results will always be the determining factor.

Good answer Nikonian72... I'd add the person on the other end of the lens plays an equally important roll... I don't care how great the glass or equipment ... if the photographer is only a snap shooter, the results will generally look the same.. If there is a true photographer on the other end they will get great results no matter what equipment or glass they use.. Having said that it also shows the better the photographer, the better the equipment, the better the results.. Just my thought on the subject...

I did buy that Canon 100 mm f2.8L IS lens for $825 in Thailand. It came with 2 year warranty but only in Asia.
Now, having had it for 2 days, perhaps others have had similar feelings about this lens. It is very diffent from anything else. Had a hard time to get it to focus etc. and I feel it may have been a mistake to get it. It seems to have limited use compared to say a 24-105 lens. I have a lot of patience though and plan to learn to get some use out of it.
Hi again Jackinthebox: Indeed it does have a fairly narrow field of focus when you are using it as a macro lens or depth of field.. But depending on your subject it is a pretty good all round lens too... I'd advise you to go to the FAQ beginners website I gave you a link to and read about your new lens... I really love mine and I don't have "L" series glass.. Just keep practicing with it pay special attention to depth of field when doing any macro work.. I think after a while you'll find out you love it...

Thank you travelingman, I appreciate your reply. I do not have any L lens this far and I am itching to get one. You have many options to locate and buy in the states but I am retired in Asia and my choices are limited. Service and repair could become a problem when repatriating to the USA but the retirement circuit is Asia for now and next year perhaps Ecuador.
Indeed I can certainly understand your situation of buying from the USA considering were you're living now.. There should be some local markets over there that would save you quite a few dollars.. I'd still try looking for used lenses and possibly save yourself even more.. Then of course there is always Canon Direct Possibly one of their refurbished lenses. I have included one of my favorite web sites about Canon and a few other lenses.. It was written for beginner photographers making it reasonably easy to follow... Hope this helps.. There is some good information on lens quality and types for usage.. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html

Hi Jackinthebox: As Nikonian mentioned the 100mm 2.8 L usm Macro glass from Canon... is their very best... Also quite expensive... I've also read & heard good reports on his other recommendations... I found my own Canon 100 mm 2.8 usm... But certainly not "L" glass on Craig's List locally... What I'm saying is you Don't have to buy brand new There are also so great on line suppliers.. I bought a number of my lenses through KEH including the only "L" glass I own which is a 1.5 70-200 usm and I bought it used too.. Just a thought.

I started an initial upload of my photo, music, video, and document files on Carbonite 25 days ago. I have not let my computer sleep. It still has 300 or so files left.
Does this sound normal? Does anyone with experience with Carbonite or similar programs have any words of wisdom?

Hi ratzthree: I recall when I first uploaded my computers information it took well over a week to up load all the files. A lot will depend on the number and size of those files... I certainly appreciated it when my hard drive crashed less than a month later... I knew it was coming so it didn't surprise me when it did... It did take a lot less time to restore the files... No double and triple checking to be certain they are correct when they're sent back I suppose.
