I started this topic with a genuine question in my mind as to how to proceed. Can I say thank you to all those of you who have been constructive and helpful in your responses. It has encouraged me to clarify my thinking and for now I am going to stay with my 550d gear and watch the mirrorless developments with interest.
I have a Canon 550d (T2i) and various lenses. I am considering swapping systems to a mirrorless set up and wondered what people's thought were in terms of the timing of such a switch and which system to go with. I have been reading about the Fuji xt3 and it intrigues me but I am an amateur photographer and it is more expensive than my Canon system. I am considering switching to reduce weight and because mirrorless looks like the future of hobbyist photography.
I hope your stopping in Olden. My favourite place. Endlessly beautiful. Small town surrounded by beautiful mountains. Your lenses sound about right to me having been to aNorway a number of times. Olden would benefit from your tripod. Do the Flam railway, if you can. Highly recommend. The glacier trip at Olden ends with the most glorious cakes after an exhilarating and scenic hike. Enjoy.
Personally I would go with 1/500 sec. , or, HIGHER is better. You are still dealing with an EFFECTIVE 480 mm. So, caution to the high end and shoot at 1/500 sec. minimum.
Yes, particularly as I'm not the steadyist. Thankd
Camera Shake. I know that to avoid camera shake I need a shutter speed at least equal to my focal length. Because of the crop factor when mixing EFS Canon camera with full frame lens, I don't know whether I should match the lenses stated length eg 300 or the 480 because of the crop sensor. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi again. I tried your test and it is the IS that is making the noise. It's certainly noisier than any of my other lenses but the IS is doing its job. Is there any way to tell if the noise is an indication of s problem rather than being a nuisance?
Wow. Thank you for taking the time to give me such a detailed and helpful reply. I really appreciate it and will try your suggestion tomorrow morning. Thank you so much. Regards.
