Costco did an 11x14 oil painting for me a few years ago that came out fine.

I suspect I should take a paper printed version to them, and show it to them first. Maybe that will key something with them.

I took a sample to Costco, and what came back had lost all of the detail I had wanted. I guess they have a high speed "developer" rather than a printer. Thanks for your reply.

Anyone had experience with printing these so that they render correctly. Printing them on an HP ink jet renders correctly (although not on the desired media, i.e. paper); but, a high speed printer such as at Costco loses the detail.

Any experience with this?

Hi, Jason - 40 years ago I was a 30-something scuba diver who owned a Nikonos film camera with one strobe. Back in those days what was available from Kodak was Kodachrome (64 ASA), Ektachrome (200 ASA), and one other, (400 ASA). Kodachrome rendered the best color, but at 64 ASA it was tough to get a fully exposed shot particularly if more than a few feet away. Ektachrome was better to get an exposed image, but it tended to make things even more blue. The 400 was the best for image, but too grainy.

Since film technology has changed greatly in 40 years, but as I recall Ektachrome tended to make blues of water at depth even bluer.

Wish I still had the opportunity for clear water scuba. Good luck.

70-200 G. Whichever is the preferred D lenses which are 80-200.

Thanks, but not the lens. Looking at the 2.8.

80-200 D vs. 70-200 G. Both f2.8.

I use a Nikon 300S with a Nikon 24-70 / f2.8 as my walk-around outfit.

Now have a need for the extra length. Cannot justify (to "Mama") the extra expense of the new versions.

Cropped sensor works great for me, and the 24-70 is substantially better than what I originally bought with the 300S.

The D versions are available substantially less than Gs.

Here are the questions for those who have used both: (1) what is the actual difference between the two? (2) can I expect the image quality of either of these two to be comparable to the 24-70?

No need to comment on FF vs. Cropped. I am up on that.

I once owned a DX 70-300 which was "okay." Gave it away to our daughter.

What do you think?

A little different take: I use a D300S back, but discovered that better lenses make better pictures. I was using a Nikon 16-85 DX lens which was the original I purchased with the camera back. However, I discovered that I made better photos with my camera when I bit the bullet for a Nikon 24-70 / 2.8 lens. I have also seen a marked improvement when shooting with their 14-24 / 2.8 wide angle lens versus my DX 16-85. One issue is the cropped sensor versus the full frame. The other issue is the quality of Nikon primes and their best zoom lenses versus their other, less expensive ones. Full frame versus cropped frame is not the only thing. The "glass" is also a consideration. Enjoy your new D500.

There is still an excellent camera repair business on Atlanta Highway in Smyrna. Called Camera Service Company. They rebuilt the shutter on a Nikon D90 for me. Did a great job. FYI.

Highly recommend Camera Service Company, Smyrna, GA. Had shutter go out on an old Nikon D70. Turned out to be a gray market camera, and Nikon would not work on it. These guys did not care, and did a nice job repairing it for a fair cost. You can call them for an estimate. I have been a repeat customer. Good luck.
