If you can't find suitable software for your scanner you can as a last resort install a Virtual Machine on your computer. Under the VM you can install Windows 7 or whatever OS you like and continue to use your scanner using whatever software works with Windows 7. This saved my behind when my scanner manufacturer and all independent scanner software providers failed to provide drivers that worked on Windows 10.

This does work and Oracle has a FREE virtual machine where you can install windows 7 (or even XP). https://www.virtualbox.org/ will bring you to it. You need an original Windows 7 or XP disk (or image) with a keycode for the install to work. It is a bit complicated but it can solve your problem.

Lifehacker has a nice page to walk you through the steps (https://lifehacker.com/how-to-set-up-a-virtual-machine-for-free-1828969527)

Windows Explorer. I save my images and put them in a folder and made sure they were saved but why the card lost the images when placed back in the camera. It never did that before as I always had to format the card after placing in the camera

Is it possible that you decided to use drag and drop instead of copy/paste ? Drag and Drop defaults to "Move" which would have the effect you are describing. [You can use drag and drop for Copy if you hold down the Ctrl key through the process]

So glad you found them. I hate that feeling. If you are using MS Windows ,may I suggest to anywone who has ever experienced this temporary loss ... download a free program called "Everything" from voidtools.com. It is the fastest and most efficient filename search program I have encountered. It can search for a specific name or all files with the extension jpg (*.jpg) and then sort by name or by location on the disk. It can index whatever drives on your system you specify and retain the index for immediate searching.

For a reference, here are the first 4 (of 5) edit menus in Picasa. I hope this helps!

HR Block software (in my experience) is stubbornly insistent on only looking for prior years return files where it left them. If you have your .t18 file in some other folder, you need to copy it to the place HRBlock's software expects it. A brief Google search says they store it in your Documents folder in a subfolder titled "HR Block". So create that subfolder, copy your file and maybe it'll find it.

[quote=That1NJGuy]I'd like to upgrade the laptop I presently use to edit.

I have some suggestions, but I never know what other criteria are hidden from the original inquiry. Hidden criteria can include: budget, portability for travel, having a screen that flips so you can watch a movie even though the person in front of you in coach has reclined his seat, etc.

A starting point might be "https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/best-photo-editing-laptops" . Here you can read through 10 different machines to help you find features you want, features you could care less about and those you can't live without.

My own thoughts are:
Stick with Windows. one less learning curve.
Choose the processor from the most current (there are some Intel 10th gen now, Otherwise I7-8xxx or I9)
Choose a laptop with a dedicated Graphics Card. Nvidia seems better than AMD.
Only choose a laptop with an SSD drive. 512GB is more than sufficient assuming you will use external storage for your images.
Choose a 15.6" screen size unless you plan on attaching a larger monitor.
16GB memory

I use the FileMaster app on the iPhone. It allows the PC to connect to the iPhone over a common WiFi network and make direct transfers via a web page address. The Cable connection is faster, but this works nicely too.

I had a similar issue with my panasonic zs50. I found an old soligar 135mm lens in my "maybe I'll get an adapter" box which had a push on lens cap that fit around the zs50's lens structure. So if you can get the blades to stay out of the way, you might find a push-on lens cap that fits the outside of your camera's lens structure.

Just a little more jargon that might help. The focal length of 129 is the greatest telephoto your camera is capable of. It is the equivalent of a 720mm lens on a 35 mm film camera. The greater the telephoto, the harder it is to hand hold the camera and get a sharp result. As you move from wide angle to telephoto the shutter speed becomes more critical. Your camera has very good image stabilization which helps but at 720mm you probably need a speed of 1/200 sec or faster. If your telephoto is not full out, you will get sharp pictures at slower speeds. When it is at full wide angle, you will get good results at 1/60 second or perhaps even slower.

The programmed modes work well for situations where the zoom is between full wide and half telephoto.

I hope this makes sense and helps.

I too am a long time picasa user. Just to be clear - it's not about web albums or IOS viewing, it's about workflow.

1) import from SD card to "Date taken" folder automatically deleting photos from the SD card after importing
2) Folder view of all photos including JPG, DNG (Pentax Raw), PSD
3) Editing (not PS level but useful) or "open with" in any other photo editor - i.e. open file in Photoshop
4) Face recognition and cataloging.
5) adding captions to photos
6) Any computer on your home network can access shared photos by creating a local catalog.

So the OP's question, I believe is what do we do when Picasa stops working due to inevitable Windows changes.

I am looking at ACDsee 2.0 which may have similar capabilities. Some here have suggested using Lightroom for its cataloging capabilities.

And now I'm looking forward to reading other suggestions .

in my defense - the DVD's are fine. I also have a daily updated internal backup drive and yearly backups on 100GB Mdisc and 128GB flash. It's like a belt, suspenders , rope and duck tape to hold up your pants.
