Wein makes a flash shoe adapter that allows you to use higher voltage flash units with digital cameras, I use one so I can use Norman and Vivitar flash units with my digital.
I retired as a Senior Photographer with Lockheed Martin and we used strictly Nikon cameras for slide work and Hasselbladd cameras and calumet 4X5 and 8X10 for film negatives.
Wein makes a hotshoe adapter that has let me use older Vivitar 283's and my Norman Strobes with no problems.

I have used both 4x5 and 8x10 view cameras and still have a 4x5.
