Nice shots. Really enjoy closeups of surfers. Just a footnote: how do you feel about oil rigs off your coast? I lived in Laguna Beach and there were none there. Now live on the Oregon coast where we may be getting them now that the EPA and other protections are gone. I suppose they can be festive at night when lit up like Long Beach Harbor?

In addition to the wildlife that has already been discussed, the architecture is like Europe, e.g. Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise, and is well worth photographing. Wide angle better here.

I am from Laguna Beach and know all of the area quite well. I am going to recommend an ocean view scenario and a few landmarks. From north to south: near Torrance is Palos Verdes peninsula. Traveling Palos Verdes Drive will take you to many scenic sites on the cliffs for distant views. At low tide a walk down to the beach will reveal tidepools. Going south, Newport Harbor and peninsula where John Wayne and Rock Hudson had homes. Travel farther south to Laguna Beach, just west of Laguna Hills, where the lifeguard station at Main Beach in center of town is a classic. Great views from Las Brisas restaurant (also a great place for a margarita overlooking the ocean from their patio). Then drive up Temple Hills Dr. (from Pacific Coast Hwy just south of downtown) and drive to Top of the World and go to the park there and you will see views out to Catalina Island to the west and much of Orange County to the east.

Yes, I have had that problem. I bought a high storage level SD card for my new DSLR camera and for my video camera thinking that I would have infinite storage on two 128GB cards, one at 80MB/s and one 150MB/s. I even formatted them in the cameras. No go. I cannot use any card over 64GB in these cameras.

I live in Arizona where we remain on standard time year around. I like it that way. The only negative is that during the summer season, the sunrise is 4:45 AM, but because of the heat, it is best to get up and out early before the heat of the day.

I have been using an HP6830 all in one for 2 years and have been very satisfied. And I have owned printers from almost every manufacturer over the years. They are very finicky creatures and will easily self destruct. The initial cost is minimal, but the cost of cartridges is absurd, and you dare not use off brand ink sources.

As a walker and bike rider, I would prefer to see these bikes around town rather than cars. I have trouble with people driving their cars, one person per car, to go a mile and back.

You have had many good suggestions, both brief and very comprehensive. I live on the north central coast in Lincoln City that is a major tourist destination for people from Portland and Salem in particular. The entire coast line of over 325 miles offers fantastic views. It is best to start at the north end and drive south so the ocean is easier to see and be able to quickly pull off the Oregon Coast Hwy (101) if a view catches your eye. I am partial to the Florence area that has cliffs similar to the Big Sur area as well as the seal lion caves. North of that, Newport offers an aquarium that will provide an overview of all of what the Oregon Coast has to offer in terms of sea creatures and their habitats. In the winter months it should not be difficult to find available accommodations in oceanfront motels and BandBs. If you want to reserve a room in advance, anyplace along the coast will be an adventure. You can do the entire coast with photo stops and good meals in 3 days, but any amount of time you can spare beyond that will be easy to fill. There are many city, county, state and national parks along the coast with trails, rivers, waterfalls, estuaries and bays and most all of the beaches are accessible and dog friendly. Enjoy.

Yes, a "fish eye" lens will cause some distortion, but not all wide angles will do that.
I have also been using a photographer with a drone for some interesting exterior videos of properties.

Being an amateur photographer and marketing my own real estate, my experience is that a high quality wide angle lens is certainly a necessity. Although I did my shooting during daylight hours, I still used all of the interior lighting as a buyer might see a staged house. Direct sunlight shining in the windows is a problem, but the indirect lighting is not. I believe you could stick with just your auto settings particularly because you will be going from room to room and shot to shot and adjusting constantly for different lighting can get cumbersome.

I would agree with all that has been said before with a few additions. Kauai is The Garden Island, so has a lot of lush greenery and flowers. If you like close ups of flowers, bring your favorite lenses for that. It rains more and has more cloudy days than the other islands, so be prepared for that, especially in March. The helicopter ride is also highly recommended. I used a video camera for that and still find it exciting to watch. Kauai is less built up, congested, and touristy than Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island, so lots of countryside to explore. One caveat, which is not such a big deal in Kauai as on the more tourist filled island, but your rental car is not a secure place to leave expensive camera equipment. The local thieves can be in and out of your car in 1/32 seconds.

I agree with trying to use the tiki torches and other ambient lighting as sources for your nighttime shots rather than a flash. If there is a hula show, a brief video would be nice, but otherwise just get up close for stills. Sometimes they encourage audience participation in doing the hula, so have someone ready to photograph you on stage. Also, the preparation of the fire pit with leaves and burning embers is a process worth recording (if they do the kalua pig that way. Sometimes they do it on a smoker instead, although not the tradition). This is usually done well before the luau. Enjoy your trip. You won't want to come home.

The large influx of new residents to Oregon is not a happy thing for us, so yielding population superiority to Florida, Texas, CA is with pleasure. The Welcome to Oregon sign used to say: "Thanks for visiting, now go home."

I am a physician who consults in emergency departments in multiple hospitals in California. Among the chemicals that people ingest that results in the need for emergency intervention, marijuana alone has never been a culprit (barring accidental ingestion by children). Alcohol remains the biggest problem in numbers, resulting in auto (and other) accidents and injuries, violence toward others and self, and a host of long term physical and mental damage. The next is methamphetamine that makes people violent and irrational with lots of police intervention required. Third is opiates and heroin, which unfortunately frequently leads to people leaving the ER in a hearse. I do not recommend marijuana use for getting high, unless you eat a brownie for desert and stay home for the evening. I believe federal reclassification could lead to more enlightening research into what medical benefits might derive from the various chemical components.

I live in Oregon. So far there has been no change at our local gas stations, prices, function, etc. And no change is expected. This law just allows rural counties to have discretion on the issue of who can pump gas. No big deal for a state that changes slowly and values its history and environment. However, Oregon did have the biggest influx of new residents of all US states in 2017. So, change is likely just around the corner.
