Hi Hoggers,

Need some advice. I'm going to send my D750 to Nikon for shutter replacement and have never sent them anything before. My question is: should I remove the battery and memory cards prior to sending to them?

Thanks for your advice.

Dave

How many of you fellow traveling photographers; have experienced heavy screens; by the T.S.A. when traveling with your carry on camera bag?

This seems to be the norm for me..
Either coming or returning home...
At least once a trip this seems to happen...

I understand that the black bag could raise some suspicion...

All lenses are layed down as to not make the X-Ray scann bring suspension...
There's nothing sharp or unusual in the bag...

Although once I did have a small knife that I forgot was in there and they missed that all together...

But I have experienced a shake down even after my bag was X-Ray ed...
It is almost like I can count on this happening at least once every time I travel...

Just wanted to know if I was just unlucky... I really don't have anything to hide from them...
I even scored a "full security" .... "random test check" with a palm swab...
That was very unnerving...

I must have been the thousandth passenger... Lucky me...
I will never forget the looks from my wife and the other folks nearby...
How many of you fellow traveling photographers; h... (show quote)

Be glad TSA is paying attention. I too have had my backpack searched on occasion but it tells me someone is doing their job as they are trained to do. I usually carry my body’s and at least two lenses. It happens…

Abes is showing the D500 "new factory fresh" for $1,139.00. All others this low are renewed. All other new ones I have seen near this price are $300 or so higher. How trustworthy is this?

Just checked out their site and checked out return policies. DON’T DO IT!!!

Just took a hunting trip to South Dakota on November 7th. Put my camera with inserted battery, spare battery with charger, and one lense all in my carry-on back pack. No issues whatsoever...

Thanks for the heads up everyone. I picked a Manfrotto 3221 W with a 484rc2 head at a thrift store for $10.00 dollars. I already sent it to my son.

I have owned a 3051 Bogen for probably over 30 years and it has always been my go-to tripod - even at my experienced age of 72. A couple of weeks ago one of the castings at the top of a leg cracked. Ordered and SPEEDILY got a replacement from Manfrotto UK and got to work replacing it. All would have been fine if I had not somehow misaligned the 'hidden' secret part to the auto-release function. Getting to the point, I have become very 'intimate' (Joke if you must - my wife was OK with it!) with pretty much every part of these great 'pods' ssooooo if any of you other owners ever needs advice on it - you know where to find me!

NOTE: Practically all of the expletives occurred during the final reassembly process.

How do I find out what model I have? I found one at a thrift store for a fair price.

For those who may not be aware. The first shot of the tall clock in Lititz is a Rolex clock. In Lititz Rolex have a watch school and also a certified Rolex repair facility in Lititz. This part of Lancaster County has a long and storied history of early American clockmaking. So if your Rolex goes in for service don’t be surprised if your jeweler sends it off to Lititz for servicing...MMO

After numerous trips the last few years to Europe I was looking and researching a good solid all around lens. I too had a couple kit lenses that were OK but I was looking for something that would serve as a lens to shoot people, architecture, and scenery. We hang with a bunch of oenophiles so having a lens for the wine tours was also paramount. After much research and quite frankly seeing people’s responses on this
website I settled on a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens. I took it to Japan to ski, London in April, the Outer Banks of North Carolina as I write this. What a great piece of equipment. Two years ago I purchased a Tamron 150-600 G2 and took it to Tanzania and I was smitten with Tamron. I know there are people who have all their own likes in the way of lenses on this blog but this is my take away. We are headed to Spain in September and I am looking forward to shooting with my 24-70. Your call, just my two cents...MMO

Philly is a great city even with all the issues that come with a big city. It’s a fantastic town with good people and a wonderful mixture of cultures with the fabulous food that goes along with it. The museums are world class. As they say don’t knock it till you try it. Wonderful shots you have there!!!

All of your shots make me homesick for Philly. I must say my favorite is your shot of the Waterworks. Nice detail, lots to see! You make Ben Franklin proud!

Take a look at the Tamron 150-600. It weighs in at 4.4 pounds but ounce for ounce and dollar for dollar it’s a great lense for Safari. I picked one up last year for a trip to Tanzania. If you are on a guided tour I will assume that your vehicle will be equipped with bean bags for your shots. I took a small tripod but never had a needd to use it. The lense has VC control so it helps with any hand held shots. Look at the reviews and decide.

This blog is making me seriously think twice about insuring my equipment. It doesn’t take long for the value of your equipment to add up only to watch it all go away while on vacation via theft or have an accident with your equipment. Thanks to all of you for the info. My insurance carrier will receive a call on Monday.

No worries there mate. The Tamron 150-600 G2 is a fine specimen of a lense. I purchased mine this past year and used it in Tanzania for the great migration. I think you will really appreciate it for its sharpness and long range capabilities. I was also impressed with the VC control while taking free standing shots in the Bush. I think you will be pleased.

As an amateur photographer I have to say that I am appalled at people’s disregard for the unprofessionalism I am seeing and reading. Forget the fact that the Sistene Chapel is a sacred, religious, and historical place. These paintings and frescoes are hundreds of years old and have been painstakingly restored, undertaken years of restoration at a staggering cost of millions and millions of dollars for the world to enjoy. As photographers we are supposed to hold ourselves to a high standard of decorum and what I read here is that it is OK for some people to disregard the wishes of those who ask us not to photograph in the chapel. Stop being the ugly Americans.
We are better than that!
