Within moments after initial arrival and stepping into the airport tarmac in Keflavek, Iceland, we were treated to an omen of the good luck that would follow us throughout the two week holiday in this beautiful land of extremes.

While on an extended holiday chasing the northern lights and other natural beauty of Iceland, after standing vigil of the night skies for color, we were to be treated to the sun rising over the eastern fjords of Iceland on a chilly, still morning, reflections were as glorious as the actual sky.

Im just glad others obtained good photos. Plus i think the story of how we 'almost' got to see it, but foiled by nature, is just as interesting. Just another one of life's 'oh well's'.

While waiting (along with hundreds of others) on the summit of Roan Mountain located on the borders of Tennessee and North Carolina, for the ultimate photo of the eclipse,.......something else happened. The mountain made it's own weather and we were were enveloped by fog and rain while it remained sunny around us. We never saw the sun.

Well, you could always solve that problem by disguising a fire cracker as a peanut and when one of the little buggers puts it in his mouth, ....bang! The only real snag in the plan is training the other squirrel on how to light it.

I liked Adam West's talents and his ability to deliver a 'dry' and subtle joke.

The irony is,....that when the tv show, Batman came out I the 1960's, my brothers and I were forbidden from watching it due to 'violence'. Oh, the times have changed.

Thanks to all for this discussion. We too are going back to Iceland this summer for a photo 'safari' and had not yet considered the implications of taking additional spare batteries. The beauty of Iceland is well worth the cost and hassle in travel.

I've taken thousands of pictures. Most of which were decent, some of which were good, and a few exceptional, but one.......only one has ever captured every aspect and emotion of the subject that I was seeing through my own eyes at the time -to the point that I can still experience the same emotion every time I see it.

I wish I could capture many more like it. Perhaps I'm not alone in that.

Thanks to all for the research and insight.

As I mentioned, as expected, too good to be true,........ is just that.

I guess it's God's way of letting me know what I already knew anyway,..... I really didn't need a full frame camera after all.

My talent, (meaning my lack thereof ) wouldn't have matched the equipment anyway.

Anyone deal with SLRDIRECT, out of Berkley Heights, NJ?

Looking at a Nikon D750 body that they have priced at only $1,279. Substantially less than most dealers.

Their description states-'brand new, factory fresh'. Gray market?

But I'm a big believer in "if it's too good to be true...."

Welcome.
I lived in the mountains of NC for well over a decade. Mitchell county to be exact.

Had to go elsewhere for career reasons.

But miss the absolute beauty of those mountains terribly.

What I've failed to mention was that with each new camera body or lens upgrade I've given her has always been along the lines of surprise.

Ahh that's the trick, I would ensure I retrieved the d40. I may be a practical joker, but I am no environmental terrorist.
