I decided to try out some birding with my 200-500 Nikon on my D810. Took a stroll on the path along the Riverwalk by the Kern River on the west side of Bakersfield. I didn’t expect to see much but I was pleasantly surprised to find some good subjects in the late afternoon light.
Great shots Rob, nature smiles upon you. Gtwmdo. George

Side note: I am older and remember when "portable" computers came in a big case similar to a portable sewing machine. In fact it was easy to mistake one for the other.
Below is the Compaq Portable
Thanks I am 77 and a vague memory of this as well

Had fire in home and no access to computer now and probably for at least 6 months. Advanced amateur with a camera over 60 years. Not so with computers. Upgrading nikon d300s to d500. My joy is “being out there” shooting. Must consider a laptop/not desktop. Want to download my card And use software with an easier learning curve used photoshop 5/Picassa and Lightroom (with some difficulty. What specs for computer with 15-17” screen or ,what computer would you advise
Thanks. Gtwmdo
My favorite of the islands. Truly otherworldly. You captured the essence. Thanks Rob. George
Great location great work(play)
Thank you all for your input and advice. It is deeply appreciated I will be picking up the camera D 500 tomorrow and “fumble with it“
I will as usual overthink the options.
Thanks again GTWMDO
This is the first time I am asking a question from the group, and I appreciate the responses so far. It will take me a bit to process the information
Thanks.
Thanks for your input it gives me a starting poin
Going from Nikon d3003 to D 500-Shooting nikons 40 years. Love being in the field, not so much with time on computers. Using windows 10,PP CS 5 extended, rarely LR 5.71. Enjoy (non supported) version of Picasa since easy to download send to PP use ACR and minimal tools then save and emai from Picasa
Bad part is mostly jpeg final and had problem
With keeping Raw files
Issue now- I’m told I may not be able to open photos shot with D500 with my set up. I’m set for rental of D500 Thursday. Figured I’d use Steve Perry’s advice on initial settings and start with that BIF and stationery. I don’t want to fumbling around with a new camera while checking it out. Again not really computer competent. Told I need a DNG converter etc etc
Getting more confused Help please
Lens will be Nikon 80-400 4.5-5.6GED which I have been using over 1 year
Thanks again
Thank you so much for your reply sounds like a wonderful place it’s on my bucket list. I will pass it onto them and hopefully they will have the opportunity to stop and walk inside
