For something unique (whether it's a non-standard shape, or a different material, or foil stamp), go with www.moo.com .... for something more traditional, www.vistaprint.com.

But don't forget your local printer. On this forum, we're constantly being admonished to support our local camera stores. The same logic applies printing, too.

Okay, I've read your comments and have many to thank. I apologize if I leave anyone out.

First, a small defense of myself. I'm not a novice photographer, though I've mostly avoided flash till now. In the 1960s, as a teenager my proudest possession was a Rolleiflex my oldest brother had given me (well, except for my Besson euphonium, but that's another story). A couple of years ago, I invested in what I thought was a good starter flash for me, the Flashpoint and a transmitter. I've used it a little, but flash is foreign to me, and I'm still learning.

Steve DeMott suggested the Strobist three part tutorial, and that seems to be gold. I'll be working my way through it for a while. E.L. Shapiro writes of Excessive trigger voltage and I’m going to have to study that for a while to understand it. :-)

I’ve been fascinated by lighting for a while but the funds always ended up going to a new pro lens, or a photographically oriented travel vacation. Now that these lights fell in my lap, I’m anxious to learn.

My thanks to all of you.

Oh, and I don't mind a little snarkiness. A small price to pay for the knowledge on this forum.

All right, I own a Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion R2 TTL On-Camera Flash Speedlight For Olympus, as well as a Flashpoint R2 TTL Transmitter for Panasonic and Olympus Cameras.

I recently bought a used Olympus EM-1 mark ii, and seller "threw in" a Olympus electronic flash FL36R, a Nissan i40, and Mcoplus speedlite MCO320. I have no idea what I have or how I might use it.

Tell me what to buy. Or if I should chunk these new lights in the trash. Is it possible to control these as extra flashes?

I apologize for the seemingly elementary questions, but I am truly lost and I would appreciate any suggestions, even the snarky ones.

Thanks.

Hi again.. a 4year certificate might be redundant because the technology of today will be useless or replaced in a yr.

IMHO, a well-designed course of study would emphasize art and composition and general principles of design and color. Maybe a solid technical background like The Manual of Photography, Tenth Edition 10th Edition by Elizabeth Allen to help understand technologies of the future.

Cameras have changed but the basic principles of lighting and composition have not.

The whole purpose behind photography in advertising is not to actually to make a sale. It is to catch the attention of prospective buyers. Selling comes after that

But in a market with lots of houses for sale, insufficient pictures can result in someone just passing over the house because the pictures, accurate or not, may not be "special" enough.

And I bet you think that Quarter Pounder with Cheese you just ordered actually looks like the one shown on the poster?
Truth in advertsing has always been a myth. Always will be.

I understand. But two thoughts: the burger doesn't cost half a million dollars. And how far can I go and still be "ethical"?

I've just learned the phrase "ethical optimization." Apparently it means "lying with photography."
A friend is selling her house. Unhappy with the realtor's pictures (too dark), she asked me to try. I gave her three dozen beautiful images and thought I'd done a good job, making the images looks like reality. That was a mistake. Real estate photographers employ the concept of "ethical optimization." Super wide lenses. House looks huge. A normal fridge appears six feet wide. Everything looks bigger than life.
Next time I can match the effect, I think. But what do you think of the idea? If everyone else is making the houses look better than they are, I'm putting someone at a disadvantage by aiming for realism..
Thoughts?

I just dropped a grand on my Olympus.

You don't say what camera you bought but from the price, I'm guessing the OMD EM5ii. Those are pretty complex. Don't get discouraged.

Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na5D0VFI1AQ for free, or creativelive.com has good video training to teach you the fundamentals of the camera.

The manual, to put politely, sucks. Better to study Mastering the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II by Darrell Young. I've spent many hours with this book in one hand and the camera in the other.

And as others here have pointed out, there's still a lot to learn about photography and lighting and exposure and composition and .... you get the idea. You have an adventure ahead of you, but it's a fun one and a worthwhile one.

As you've already discovered, uglyhedgehog.com is an awesome source. You'll have to ignore the fighting and bickering and just soak in the knowledge. Some of the snarkiest members are also the most knowledgeable ones so you'll tune out the drama and just learn.

Good luck.

And mine was a 64K computer. That was after the one where you had to use 2 5.25" floppy discs to make it work. And work in DOS.

It could be worse. My first desktop computer had 8 inch floppies.

I'll send an image tomorrow but tonight I have a short story to tell about L.

First of all, understand that email addresses are case insensitive: MTAYLOR@xyz.com is the same as mtaylor@xyz.com. Knowing this, I set up a new email account MTAYIOR@xyz.com, which, when typed in lower case, looks like mtaylor@xyz.com. Having set up this new account, I began sending emails to my fellow I.T. guy. It appeared that the emails were coming from mtaylor@xyz.com, our CFO and boss.

A perfect ruse! I had the other I.T. guy doing my work for weeks. :-)
