Thanks! I am excited about learning new things on here. I love photos of my children and of course I'm not embarrassed of them, but I guess if a professional sees it, I feel like they see all the flaws in the photo itself where my talent is concerned. So I'm hoping to improve that. I do love photoing my children though. I certainly don't feel confident in photographing for others!

Hi! I became interested in photography after having my first child as well! I am still just learning. I just wanted to take my own professional looking shots of my kids. I now have two kids and I'm still learning!! I bought a Nikon D3200 at Best Buy for around $550, I think. It came with two kit lenses- 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. I used those lenses until recently when I also got a 50mm f1.8G at jet.com for $180. I love the results I get with it. I wish I had purchased it sooner with inside shots. It allows you to get close and lets in a lot of light. I struggle with low light in my house. You can get good results with the 55-200 if you take photos outside and get far enough away from your subject that you can zoom almost all the way in. Be sure your f stop is as low as it will go. You will get the blurry background. Photographing children just takes a lot of patience, but you always have a cute subject available to practice on! Good luck!

I am a newbie to photography. My love for photography has come from desiring beautiful pictures of my own kids. I've taken them to some talented photographers and sometimes will come away with maybe one truly awesome photo, but often they just don't capture my kids as I see and know them. Something is missing. Often they don't take time with the little details that really get on my nerves when I look at a photo. They seem simple, but just being aware of a shoe coming untied or a bow slipping out of place makes a big difference. So, I bought a camera and decided to give it a try. I struggled with my first shots and had to take tons of shots to get a good one. I've done some research and practiced and can now shoot in manual mode which I'm excited about. I have so much to learn and still feel embarrassed for professionals to see my work. But, I've taken some photos of my kids which truly make me happy, so it's all been worth it to me personally. I want to keep learning! I don't have a desire to have a business but just to develop my talent for my own personal use and enjoyment. I do have this little idea that one day I would like to be a children's birthday party photographer. I love birthday parties and have hired someone to shoot my own kids' parties in the past! I don't know if this will ever happen or if I would ever feel confident in doing it, but just a little something I have thought about. I look forward to learning more about every aspect of photography!
