I am a newbie to photography. My love for photography has come from desiring beautiful pictures of my own kids. I've taken them to some talented photographers and sometimes will come away with maybe one truly awesome photo, but often they just don't capture my kids as I see and know them. Something is missing. Often they don't take time with the little details that really get on my nerves when I look at a photo. They seem simple, but just being aware of a shoe coming untied or a bow slipping out of place makes a big difference. So, I bought a camera and decided to give it a try. I struggled with my first shots and had to take tons of shots to get a good one. I've done some research and practiced and can now shoot in manual mode which I'm excited about. I have so much to learn and still feel embarrassed for professionals to see my work. But, I've taken some photos of my kids which truly make me happy, so it's all been worth it to me personally. I want to keep learning! I don't have a desire to have a business but just to develop my talent for my own personal use and enjoyment. I do have this little idea that one day I would like to be a children's birthday party photographer. I love birthday parties and have hired someone to shoot my own kids' parties in the past! I don't know if this will ever happen or if I would ever feel confident in doing it, but just a little something I have thought about. I look forward to learning more about every aspect of photography!
Don't be embarrassed, and don't be afraid to ask. Nobody started at the top, and we all learn everyday. Just have fun & enjoy your kids while taking there pictures
The best pictures are the ones you like. It's a bonus when someone else likes them.
Welcome. If you struggled and had to take tons of photos to get a good one, you may have omitted reading the manual. The best way to learn digital photography is to get some good books on the subject, read them and practice. All the knowledge you need to get really good at photography is in those books. Now a days, anyone can pick up a D5500 and a few studio lights and get some cards printed up and they're a professional photographer, or so they think. Without the knowledge, they're just another imposter with a decent camera and some lights in the basement, hoping they can drum up enough business from relatives to buy a better camera and a few strobes.
Read the books...
Thanks! I am excited about learning new things on here. I love photos of my children and of course I'm not embarrassed of them, but I guess if a professional sees it, I feel like they see all the flaws in the photo itself where my talent is concerned. So I'm hoping to improve that. I do love photoing my children though. I certainly don't feel confident in photographing for others!
Welcome! Looking forward to your posts and pictures. Happy shooting!

We feed feral cats on our back deck, so this not a possum its a cat
