Returned from a month of visiting kids (and beautiful scenery) in Ut, WY and CO. My husband and I both took pictures of the same subjects and he has a P900 and I have a D300.
Although most of my pictures are sharper - I was surprised at how many he got that look fine. He doesn't like changing lenses and he doesn't want to figure out which aperture, shutter speed or anything else! He just uses the presets on his P900. His fireworks were really great! His shots of the running grandkids also did very well. I think you should just think of this camera as a really good point and shoot and enjoy that long zoom. He loves this camera!
I couldn't afford a FF camera, so I bought a refurbished Nikon D7200 - it was too advanced for me. I decided to send it back and go "older" - bought a used Nikon D300 and I LOVE it. Plus I already had batteries, CF cards, and charger that fit my old D200. I only spent 300 dollars on this wonderful camera. I have my old lens (18-200) that is wonderful to walk around with. I looked at some used lens that have a longer zoom, but even used, I can't quite afford one yet - so I have to move closer! LOL Unless you plan on being a professional, don't use your whole budget on a camera and then have no money to travel anywhere to use it! Good Luck!
Last summer at lake Powell.
My first dslr was nikon d200....I LOVED it but never shot in raw due to advice from a friend that said jpeg was just as good. I kept it on "P" and never learned manual shooting. Now I need a lighter weight camera...and since I'm rural...camera shops are in Houston and I didn't want to drive there. So I ordered a d5500 and it is very light weight even wiith my favorite lens. I like the touch screen and the tilt screen and even the scene modes! But I started shooting raw with this camera and added Lr to my PSE 14 editing. Wish I had always shot in raw now that I see the difference. I do mostly scenery and grandkids, not a pro at all but love taking photos. Guess what I'm saying is get the one with the features YOU want and you will use those features and maybe learn a little more!

Paris Texas! I have a niece in Venus Texas! There are lot of towns in texas with foreign names...how about Egypt Texas! London Texas! Florence Tx. Scotland tx and last one I can think of is Liverpool tx...and wouldn't be surprised if there are more I haven't thought of! LOL
I've never seen such colorful birds....just awesome to see! Thanks for sharing!
Mostly Scenery but also babies - this flower was inspirational to me because it looks so soft and perfect and yet touchable. Taken at Antique Rose Emporium in Independence TX a couple of days ago.
I like the last one best!
Have you read ken Rockwell reviews? Ii liike how he compares past models to a current one....
Hi Pat,
Know your Round Rock area - one of my sons lived "next door" in Cedar Park for a few years.
I've been able to visit High Island several times and haven't tired of it yet! Just take a picnic lunch and spend the day!

Thanks, Tom - this is what I can't seem to remember - I will print it out and tape it to my camera bag!
My husband has a couple of DSLR's (Nikon D200 & Nikon D40) but he bought the Nikon COOLPIX P900 Digital Camera from B&H # NICPP900B MFR # 26499. It has a super zoom that he loves and since he isn't interested in carrying extra lenses, he has been very happy with this P900. Check it out on B&H online.
Hi, I'm Grammabd. I retired in 2007 and that's when I bought my Nikon D200. I LOVE the pictures (most of the time). I have used Program auto almost exclusively because it is sooo easy. In 2017 I want to learn to use aperture to be able to take pictures of a field of flowers that is not out of focus for half the picture.
Anyone have any quick and easy ways to help me remember which settings to use. I love to go to the hill country in and around Fredericksburg, TX for bluebonnet photos. And I've been to High Island, TX for birding pictures - what a treat!
I live in Matagorda County and yesterday I saw a small field of Sandhill Cranes but I knew they were just a little too far for my camera to reach them.
Looking forward to see what everyone likes to photograph!
