I think a better question is what are photographers going to do to compete with the I phone X. I see some exceptional stylized images in my future :)

I'm interested in knowing where you post your pics to, if at all, and why or why not?

Hi, I have used dropbox for many years and sent links when sharing but in the last few months have been using Hightail spaces to send links for images to share, I also post on 500px and use that link in my online quotes for prospective clients to view. And of course post to facebook often. in my photo share groups we created a free web site just for us to share and discuss. just some of the ways I post. Happy shooting.

[quote=Travelin' Bud]For some reason, after I edit a photo on my Mac, in their Photo (previously iPhoto) the photos show up on my screen with a series of bars that I can only describe as possibly misaligned pixels. The attached photos show the issue better than I can describe it.

I had this problem a few years ago, mainly in photo viewer but showed up in other programs too. had a IT guru friend check out my MAC and his recommendation was more RAM and update graphics card if possible. I did both and never had the issue again.
good luck getting it fixed.

I ran in to this when I started as well. A few things I have learned to correct the problem with little cost is first, use clamps to stretch the background this will remove most of the wrinkles. second change your depth of field / move subject further from the background and lastly I use a clothing steamer to smooth out any folds in the material. hope this helps, good luck with the learning!

Hi, A week or so ago I posted a picture ... Any further advice would be appreciated.

Stevenh, first off I believe every camera and lens can take good images as long as you know their limitations. that being said try and take the same shot again only this time use an object, a stone tree or something with some detail, and keep taking that same shot using some of the techniques for getting a stable platform to shoot from. when you get the sharpest image from the lens camera you have remember what you did and then use that. Bird photography is really an art into itself and takes practice to be good at it, keep practicing and learning and you will get the images you want. Good luck.

that would be a good one but at 55 years old don't think I would make it till the end.

How about being the volunteer photographer at an animal shelter, you could do pet adoption photos. In some communities they are published in local newspapers.

Funny you should mention this, I did just that last weekend and took some great shots but its not the kind of project that I am looking for. My last long term project I did a photo every month corresponding to the alphabet, at the end I took all 28 photos and put them in a photo book with a little editing and inserted text and gave to my granddaughter to help with her ABC's. was fun and a little challenging especially "X" and "U" lol. Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep brain storming till I find my next one.

I am looking for a long term project to add some interest to my blog posts and was interested in hearing some examples from other photographers. would prefer a project involving portraiture but am up for anything really. natural light preferable and easier but studio projects fine too. any suggestions?

I try to include people in all my photos for two reasons, 1: scale, the people looking at the photo have a better idea of what they are looking at if you have something familiar to scale the photo too. and the other is connection, sure photos with out people can be very nice to look at but if there are people in the photo we have more of a connection to the image and seem to like those images more.

I have been using Lightroom for awhile version 2 I think and upgraded to newest version soon as it was released. I also use elements. The problem with the monthly cost for me is I have enough monthly costs to contend with. I don't know why Adobe cant support the programs and their updates for those wishing not to spend the monthly fee for CC? I will make the best of what I have until there are no options left.

The PPI should have nothing to do with image quality unless you re-sampled and somehow reduced the total number of pixels available to a really low number. Don't worry about PPI unless the client wants a specific setting. Worry about total pixels in the image. Web Photos are generally in sRGB color space. How the client's software may compress your images for web display is beyond your control.

To get a good quality image occupying a full screen without distortion on most hi-res monitors you need a minimum height of 1080 pixels (2160 pixels for 4k monitors). If that is what the client wants I would use the following "File Settings" and "Image Sizing" on export:

Rick, thanks same info from CHG_Canon and will try this and talk to the client to make sure they are not processing images any other way.

Rather than quality, try the Image Sizing setting in the LR export. Restore the Quality setting to 100% in File Settings. Then select Resize to Fit "long edge" and check Don't Enlarge. Set the Long Edge to 2048 in pixels. Set the resolution to 132 pixels per inch. In section Output Sharpening, set for screen and Low (or Normal) depending on the amount of sharpening applied already during your processing. Depending on the online use, you might lower the long side to 1024 (or still smaller) and the PPI down to 72. Can this client provide any minimum requirements to identify if my suggested settings support or overshoot their minimum requirements? HighTail or email attachments should have no impact on the contents of the files being transferred, although in email the file must be attached rather than embedded.

Also, ask them what they've done to the files on their end? Used as-is or other processing such as down-sizing using their own techniques?

CHG_Canon thanks for the info I will try this and see how it goes. I did ask the client if they were processing the images in any way and was told that they are resizing to fit their web template but nothing else. will let you know if this fixes the problem and thanks again.
