Adobe has announced that its stand-alone programs are history. If you want a copy of LR 6, you'd better buy it today. From here on out, it's "CC and the monthly fee."

That is sad. I don't trust the Cloud.
Call me old fashioned but I won't pay another monthly fee. I already do enough of those. It is kind of like paying every month for sweeping my floor. Sell me a broom and I will do it myself.

I agree, it seems that companies do want to let you have the control of owner ship of their products. It is a way of holding you hostage. Some one else hopefully come along with a program that will do the same, and hopefully more competitive. The most productive thing the government could do is break up companies when the become to big monopolistic but we know that is not going to happen with or campaign laws or bribery laws in place where monies buy privilege. We stifle competition and the expect progress. Micro Soft and Apple are two prime example, as well as ATT.

I have the CC plan (PS and LR), but prefer the stand alone versions. The CC versions just seem slower than the standalones. I HATE being coerced into these "subscription" versions. I find myself using PS5, PS6, and LR5.7.1 much more than the CC versions.

I don't trust the cloud either. That said, having had to use Creative Cloud for a couple of years now, it turns out to be fine, and actually better in some respects. Once you download and install the Adobe Software with Creative Cloud, you can still use it locally even if you are not connected to the Internet.

The cloud has very little to do with it.

The CC photography package gives you a license to run programs which reside on your computer to work on photos on your computer. The only thing the cloud has to do with it is that's where you get the program (and updates) from. And the updates are included in the cost.

LR6 does work, and will continue to work as long as you don't buy a new camera (unless you don't shoot raw). Even then you can probably get it to work by converting to dng. The only problem is that you will never see new features from updates.

The cost of CC is relatively small. I don't believe there is any hobby that is completely free of expense.

And I hire someone to sweep my floor too. I am capable of doing it, but they do a better job than I do. They cost me significantly more than the CC photography package.

They've announced they will stop selling Photoshop CS6, not Lightroom 6. The two are not connected.

So I guess LR isn't part of the Creative Suite, and it should be available for purchase into the foreseeable future.

Anybody got a link to the standalone version? I will NOT go to the cloud, and their never ending push to sell us more, more, more makes me even more determined. You absolutely cannot find the standalone anywhere on their site.

Thanks for the reply to my post. I don't thrust the Cloud to be the walk in closet for my images. It opens the door for someone else to see and or use them. Yes, I know they say that it is safe and this can't happen. I am not wiling to take that chance.
What happens when that CC ceases to exist?
I respect your decision to use what ever method you prefer.

They make it almost impossible to find anything but the CC. Someone posted a link to LR on their site. Maybe he'll post it again. I don't have it on this computer.

Is this what everyone is looking for?

I just did the upgrade from 4 to 6 with no problem.

This is a common misconception about "The Cloud". It's not a cloud at all. Has nothing to do with a cloud. It's just a different way of installing the programs on your computer: via the internet rather than CDs. That's it. Your images stay on your computer and never get uploaded anywhere.
