I have visited several countries in Africa, both solo and with a group. I love traveling with Natural Habitat. Dave Luck is a wonderful photographer who also happens to be the best guide I have ever had. He leads photography focused groups and "regular" safaris. Both are great. I would choose based on my schedule. I have only traveled with him in Botswana but he may do other countries.

I use Picaboo. Don't pay full price as they do sales frequently. I post process in Lightroom then use PSE to make my pages which I save as JPGs and upload. I purchase templates, paper, embellishments, etc. from various sources. It is very simple to upload pages to Picaboo. Yes, you can order multiple copies. I have been very pleased with the quality. I do not know how prices compare.

If you are going to be in the Kruger National Park you will probably be in a closed vehicle and remain on the road. For that you will need a very different lens than if you are on some of the private game reserves in the greater Kruger area. I think that is the first question you need answered. I would consider one camera with a longer lens and one camera without if you are in an open vehicle. The last time I was there I had the Canon 100 - 400 on one body and frequently animals were to close for it but it was great for the birds. I would definitely take a backup camera.

I have two EHDs at home and back up to both. I also back up to an EHD that I keep in the safe deposit box at the bank. Paranoid? Me? Absolutely not! No, I am not a professional. I just don't want to lose my travel and family photos.

I am fortunate enough to have been on several safaris. I suggest that you not plan on changing lenses in the field. It is so dusty! I suggest 2 bodies. Last time, the first day, the auto focus on my 50D malfunctioned. I was very glad to have my 80D. You will have an incredible experience and get wonderful images.

Totally agree with the 2 lens, 2 body approach. It is hard to imagine the dust. Enjoy!

I have been on safari in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Botswana. Botswana is my absolute favorite because of good animal sightings and far fewer people. You will love it and get great photos.

I love the lay flat books from Picaboo. I think they are expensive but worth it. They do special offers or vouchers frequently. Wait for one.

The 100-400 is big but since we were sitting about 95% of the time, it was not a problem. Most safari vehicles have beanbag type devices that can be used by guests.

I used the 100-400 II in Botswana in June and was pleased with it. You may want to rethink changing lenses on game drives as it can be very, very dusty. I have also used a 16-300 very successfully on safari. There will probably be times that game will be too close for the 100-400. You might consider taking a point and shoot or second camera with a wider lens. This trip my traveling photo buddy shot a 16-300 and I shot 100-400. That was a great combination. We share images for making our photo books. Works for us!
I encourage you to take a second camera of some type. This trip my backup, 50D, that I was going to use with the 16-300, died the first day. The autofocus would not work. Fortunately, it was not a problem because I had my 80D and a P and S.

I have done multiple safaris, the most recent last month. I used a 100-400 with 1.4 teleconverter and a 16-300 on the second camera. That worked well for me. The advice about not changing lens in the field should be heeded. It is incredibly dusty. You will love it. What country?

I did a safari in Botswana with a Tamron 18-300 and the Canon 100-400. I did not need anything else. I am about to do that trip again and will not take anything other than these two.

I used Canon's new, at that time, 100 - 400 in Botswana 2 years ago and was very pleased with it. When I return in June I will take it and the newly acquired 1.4 teleconverter.
