Took a winter vacation to visit friends who have a condo on the beach. Took my D810 w/ 200-500 and sat on a beach chair and watched this osprey fish for his dinner. It was absolutely amazing to watch. Couple of the shots are not tack sharp where he was diving but it gives you the idea of what he was doing. These shots were taken handheld. Love my 200-500 w/ D810.

I prefer the close crop and my wife does not. So your friend was correct with her comment. Thanks for the response.

What do you mean when you say "fit in the gallery"?

My wife and I have numerous discussions as to how a picture should be cropped. One likes to fill the frame the other does not. Attached are 2 sets of pictures with different crops. Which do you prefer and why?

Trying to compare pictures using different settings.

First picture was shot at f/8, 1/80 sec, iso 100.
Second picture was shot at f/16, 1/100 sec, iso 100.

Both pictures were processed in LR CC

As others have said you should look at the 200-500. On a recent trip to Africa I used this lens with a D810 and shot mostly hand held and had great results. Attached are a couple of shots.

I was in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe last June and took photos with my Canon SX60. I love my photos and made a book that was purchased by others on our trip but your photos inspire me to try to become a better photographer. (I especially love your picture of the lilac-breasted roller!)

Thank you for your comments. To me there are 3 things that make you a better photographer.
1) Learn the fundamentals of photography
2) Learn how your camera works
3) Practice, practice, and practice some more

Cordell, love the photos, thank you for posting them. You also caused me to get a very green hue on my face for being jealous. Always wanted to get there for either a photo safari or hunting one. Won't make it but viewing work like yours gets me there in my mind.

Thanks again, Greg.

This trip was at the top of my bucket list. Did not get to witness the migration but it was still wonderful.
