Looks like you are at Baskett Slough- at the overlook- I am in Salem from May -Oct and out at Baskett Slough often. Nice composition of the overview- I know it well!
It is. I'm not giving up on the birds. A friend captured a Bald Eagle taking down a Canadian Goose the next day in the same spot. I lived in Sierra Vista in the 60s. It wasn't much of a tourist spot back then.
Thanks, two more tries and it's clean. Old dog, new tricks. It ain't easy.
Okay, I went on the You Tube to find out how to clean my sensor. I did a dry cleaning and after testing still found one very small spot in the upper left hand corner. I'm not sure I want to risk wet cleaning it myself. My hands are not all that steady thanks to old age and agent orange. Should I get it professionally cleaned? I guess I'm a little too sensitive for this forum. I didn't think these pictures were wonderful or incredible, but I like them okay. I'm okay with constructive criticism, but yours come off as an attack. Good day to you too.
I didn't know I'd entered a contest. I set the ISO at 2000, on purpose, didn't have a tripod, light was low. I just wanted to see the difference between 18 and 400. I just got this lens and I really like it. I'll be more careful where I post from now on
So, I went back to the bird sanctuary at sundown with my new Tamron 18-400. Surely there would be bird this time???
HA! So I took a picture of Mt. Washington at 18 mm and 400 mm. I really like this lens.

Fantastic! Looks as if I'm standing right there.
Did you check the end for the pot of gold?
I'm not falling for that trick, again.
I took my new Tamron 18-400 out to Ankeny Hill Bird Sanctuary near Salem, Oregon. No birds, but I did find this.
I really like this lens.
Thanks for the welcomes. I really like the Hog, it's kind of like sitting next to the smart girl in school and cheating off her work.
Stopped by a bird sanctuary on the way home from picking up my lens. Turns out Thursday afternoon is their day off. So we stopped at Burgerville for lunch.
Great shots Dean. I just bought this lens on Thursday, stopped at a bird sanctuary on the way home, waited two hours and the birds had taken the day off. Not one bird in two hours. I did get some pretty good barn on the hillside pics. I'm really looking forward to getting to know this lens.
I have a D7100 and just recently bought a Tamron 18-400 lens and it has been a game changer for me. It's all the lens I need for what I shoot. Travel and grandkids.
I've been reading UHH post for a few months now. Haven't posted much as I don't want to skin my ignorance in public. One thing I've noticed is there are more than a few folks who are quick to call the ignorant stupid. I've been burning film, and now pixels, for more than 50 years and I know a few things about it, but learn something new every time I read the forums. Sometimes it's just how mean some folks can be. I'll go back to lurking, but if I post, it will be positive and helpful, I hope.
I got mine last Thursday and I'm very happy with it.
I lost two of them in the first 6 months I had my D7100, haven't lost one in the two years since. I've put it on my "things to doublecheck" list.
