I loved my D200 but was having problems with lots of noise in rather low ISO settings. I found myself really limited when doing indoor shots without flash. Depending on what you shoot this may not be a problem for you ,then I would keep it. It is a really nice camera. If you do switch to a newer model you will be amazed at the quality of photo with high ISO.

My favorite photos of Rome are those taken very early in the morning before the city really wakes and late at night with the lit fountains and landmarks. Get up early and go to Piazza Navona to get some photos of the fountains before it becomes clogged with tourists. Then head to the pedestrian bridge with Bernini's beautiful angels, cross the Tiber and visit a peaceful St Peters Square. Rome at this time of day is magical. The Vatican and Collonade are beautifully lit in the evening and although you cannot enter the square at this time it is easily photographed.

Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I am going to look at the tutorials suggested and also buy Bryan Peterson's book on flash. I have his book on exposure and found it very helpful when learning metering. I have a feeling that flash is only terribly confusing in the beginning- where I am now! Need to practice, practice, practice.

I am new to flash photography. I just bought an sb700 flash to use on my Nikon D610. At the camera store, the salesman was kind enough to give me a quick tutorial on setting it up and using it with my camera which I greatly appreciated. However, he suggested that I use it with the camera in A or P mode to make thing "easier". I usually shoot in M and am most comfortable in M. Is there any reason that the flash will do better in a different mode? It seems to me like shooting in M shouldn't make any difference but perhaps I am missing something?

Another vote for supporting your local camera store! I had been wanting to learn to use a flash and had decided on an SB700 for my Nikon. I went to the local camera store to purchase and was treated to a free 1 hour tutorial on how to use it. I sure wouldn't get that with Amazon! Will be returning this week to buy another lens.

I had some of my photos put on large canvasses which I hung in my home. A visitor was admiring them and commented "Wow, you must have a REALLY BIG camera!"

If you want to see the horse farms then definitely travel through the Lexington area. There are so many gorgeous drives. http://www.kentucky.com/living/travel/article44412642.html The first 2 in the article are probably the best. The new foals are out and you can usually find safe places to pull off the roads for photos. Just keep in mind that the farms are private property.

I was interested to see your post. I have a D610 less than a year old. The last time I used the flash I had to push the flash release several times before the flash would pop up. I rarely use it. Wonder if there is a known problem in the design.

If you get up VERY EARLY you can get some fantastic shots of the pedestrian bridge over the Tiber conncecting Rome to Vatican. Bernini's angels are incredible. Then continue on to St Peters Square to capture it before it is overrun with Tourists. In the evening the colloseum, Pantheon and the collonades of the vatican are lit and provide good photo ops. If you are going to the Vatican Museum be sure to get a photo of the spiral staircase.

Hello everyone. I am very new to photography and have been given a Nikon D200 with an 18-200 VR lens. I have enjoyed it very much and have learned to shoot in all of the different modes all in natural light. I would like to try learning to use a flash and so need to purchase one. I realize that I have a very old camera and am not sure if all the speedlights will work with it. I would like to have a flash that I could bounce light and also use off camera. Any suggestions? Also, any recomendations on books, sites that would help me to learn flash photography?
