Welcome back and enjoy your Kodak. I've got two older Easysharers. I really liked them at the time.

My first bridge camera was a Z710. I took some really great shots with that. But then it got stolen. I'm hoping this Z5010 will serve me as well. If one of your EasyShares is a Z710, would you be willing to part with it?

Hey folks. A few years back my life was too hectic to continue my photography activities so I sold all gear. Everything. So now I'm getting back in the game but not in such a grandiose fashion this time. I've ordered a used bridge camera (Kodak EasyShare Z5010). My interests are doors and old barns and general nature photography. Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you Hogs have history with the Z5010. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my camera. Thanks!

My 1st digital was a Kodak C613 P&S. 6.2 mp, 3x zoom. Took decent shots.
Next was a Kodak Z710. I think this was called a bridge camera? Still a P&S but a good bit more versatile. 7.1 mp, 10x zoom.
Graduated to my 1st DSLR in a Nikon D70. 6.1 mp (almost as much as the Kodak C613! LOLOL) Bought it used with a 50mm prime lens. Couldn't seem to get the hang of it though so...
I popped for the Nikon D5100. Got a decent little kit going with it - 3 lenses, couple tripods, filters, etc. Still trying to master it. Having fun.

Got to thinking about the cameras I've had over the years and thought I'd pose the question - what was the first digital camera you bought?

My first digital was the 1st Generation Canon Rebel, EOS 300D (or DS6041) I bought back in 2003. When it first came out it was touted as the first connsumer-grade digital camera that could be had for under $1000 ($999.00 with kit lens). It has a whopping 6.3 MP sensor and came with a very crappy 18-55mm lens. I think the shooting speed is measured is seconds-per-frame and not frames-per-second LOL. I still have this camera, and even occasionally shoot with it just for old time sake. For just stuff you want to paste to Facebook it's not too bad actually.

I have 5 or 6, but they are part of my student loaner inventory. I supply manual focus film cameras to Photography 101 students at local high schools and universities. Right now I have 97 of them loaned out, all coming back in January when the semester ends. Then I have to freshen them all up for the next batch of students.

Back in the 70s I had a Minolta X-700. Came up on hard times and sold my whole kit (about $1500 value, at that time) for a couple hundred. Sure wish I had it back! Anyone got one they want to give way? LOLOL

The plethora of editing software - some expensive, some free - has me stymied. I would like to get beyond Picasa (especially since it's no longer supported) but I don't know where to go. I'm not rich so would like something free or cheap. If I could learn one or the other or both, I would go with PS/LR. My confusion is when I see how people talk about doing this or that in PS then moving it to LR and doing this or that there and then moving it to some other editing software to do something else before being done with it. Why can't everything be done in one program? Why use so many? Is there a reason that some particular software is unacceptable? Does anyone have a recommendation for affordable, simple, thorough software that a simpleton like me can learn to fly? Thanks (and would appreciate not being bashed for being a dunderhead)!

I remember the days when photographers said digital photography would never be accepted. I remember the days when cable TV was poo-pooed. My grandparents told me how people rejected the automobile, claiming horses were so much more reliable. Times change. Technology improves. I love my Nikon but I also love the versatility and image quality of my smartphone! Each has its limitations but each also has its advantages!

Why yes I did indeed. Many of the postings were quite aged and I am looking for something more current, hoping that, just maybe, there was something new, thorough, and user-friendly. Sorry to have burdened you with the redundancy.

BTW, this topic has been discussed numerous times on previous postings -- did you search for answers before you started yet another discussion?[/quote]

Thanks 3g! I have Gimp. Can't get my feeble brain around all the convolutions there. I will look into Corel Paintshop Pro. I really need something versatile, thorough, AND user-friendly. Maybe that's the one. Again, thanks!

Been using Corel PaintShopPro for a long time. They offer the current edition at sale prices just before the new edition comes out. Because I have Corel, they are currently offering an upgrade to the out-going version 18 for something like $25 or $29. I's easier to learn than Photoshop (-:
Gimp has been too convoluted for my poor ancient brain, but maybe I should give it a try again.

It isn't going to stop working just because they aren't giving it away anymore. Drive it until it drops and keep a backup of the download just in case you computer develops an issue. You aren't alone with this problem. :)

Thank you!

Virtually all my photo editing has been in Picasa because it is easy and free. Now I find out that Google is doing away with it. So... I need new software to edit/file my work. My issues are that I am financially challenged (read, poor) and I cannot seem to grasp the various terms used in programs like Photoshop and Lightroom. Any advice, recommendations, and contributions are heartily encouraged! Blessings to all!
