I have almost the same exact photos composition wise...but yours are nicer than mine. I was on a family vacation and just had to snap what was available when we were there. Great shots!

Great idea and thanks for sharing!

Really good advice and nice DIY instructions. This type set-up works for most things but there are a few scenarios where this will yield less than the best results. Light tents produce balanced light but tend to give a flat photo. As I said, this works for most things but for a few others, additional spot lighting will result in a better finished product.

I appreciate that. He's 24, which seems so young now, but is so highly trained. I just hope his service is not in vain.

My son is a CRO(Combat Rescue Officer) in control of pararescue missions. Toughest training in Special Forces with a 90% dropout rate. Both Seals and Army Rangers have failed out of this course. That said, our kudos are with all that serve.

We constantly hold our breath when the phone rings.

Forgot to mention...a large aperture, in addition to allowing faster shutter speeds, will help blur the background, making your shots more appealing. This effect(bokeh) is also dependent on the focal length of your lens and distance to your subject.

In addition, shooting wider and cropping later allows you to capture shots you may miss and reduces camera movement.

As granbob pointed out, getting down near the court really helps. Also try a few shots from a sitting position for a nice perspective.

Being new to photography, the term, "fast lens" may be a little confusing. This just means a lens that is capable of going to a larger aperture/bigger opening/smaller number on the lens. This will allow more light to come in allowing for a faster shutter speed to better freeze the action.

1/500 of a second is probably the minimum for sports and may need to be even higher depending on the lens that's used. In addition, a monopod or tripod will help a lot. Image stabilization in the camera or on the lens(if it has it) will also help.

Shots will turn out better if you can anticipate where the shot will be taken. Pre-focus on that area, then take the shot when the action moves into that spot. Obviously, you can't do this all the time, but basketball is a little easier because so much happens near the basket.

Last tip, the speed of your auto focus can also play a role in getting sharp images.

"Looking for something for nothing" Guess that's why Red states receive more federal aid than blue states. Go ahead and use "non-facts" to vote against your own best interests.

Actually, the red states receive more federal money due mainly to the large number of military bases located in them. Instead, take a look at the top 10 states that receive welfare money...9 out of 10 are BLUE!

I was raised very conservative, and exsposed conservative ideals, and the Party was never wrong. Then college opened life's door, and I began to perceive the workd differently, swung over to being very liberal. Now after years of life's lessons and diverse experiences I'm an Independent. Both liberal and conservative philosophies have some good beneficial ideals, but both are mostly poor non productive platforms with interests too narrow to benefit society as a whole. For me it's become an analysis of each individual argument as both parties spew manure pretty thick. I take the good from each and trash the rest. Should one believe either party has an elevated value over the other and not capable of wading through mire, then perhaps they're better off in whichever camp of their choosing remaining blind to their own failures while pointing accusing fingers at others. It's a fundamental aspect of American society...have at it. :-)

Great answer! I think most Americans are somewhere in the middle. And if "most Americans" were honest with themselves, they would be saying exactly what you just posted. Hopefully, one day Americans will get fed up with the extremes and start electing public officials that are actually in office to find the best solutions and to make this a better country, rather than simply voting along party lines.

This is just something else that some man wrote. It doesn't make it fact nor the answer.

"Air is made of stone". There, I wrote it. It must be fact and therefore the word of God. Crazy.

I am very sorry that your daugther is going thru this. I will pray for her and your family. Would you send me her name? My son had menengitius when he was 15 and almost died he's 36 now. He has very evident scars on his head where 3 illegals jumped him and almost killed him by beating him in the head with steel pipes, cutting him up and robing him. All families have many troubles, I had a stroke 18 months ago lost the left side of my body, but through therapy have gotten pretty much back to noraml. But I atribute these saving graces to God. His powers are unlimited. I will pray for your daughters recovery. There are no guarntees in life and I can see where you are comming from, but don't blame God, trust Him and pray to Him. I will.

I appreciate your kind words. I don't blame God because I don't believe an all-loving, all powerful God would allow this to happen. There is no God to blame.

You are a very spiritual person but not religious... what makes you so spiritual? You have already been to hell? What god do you believe in and what do you base this belief on? Please, please...please answer these questions, in depth if you can, preach to me if you must. I have got to know this strange spiritual non-religious belief that you have.

I believe that there is more to this universe than just particles. There is an order. There is a presence that ties us together in some way. I'm not sure what this is but I don't believe it's some ancient writings by man that have been transcribed thousands of times and made into a popular religion to control the masses

I find this "presence" through meditation. Others may find it different ways and that's fine. The problem with religion is that the believers are not content with their belief. Everyone else has to believe as they do.

And "yes" I have been to hell in a matter of speaking. My daughter was diagnosed with a very rare and terrible disease. She has brain and spinal tumors which we battle constantly. For a parent to see their child suffer so is "hell". Maybe you can't understand this, but I'm not sure you have the ability to grasp what I'm talking about anyway.

Faith is everything. Do you have faith in your wife, children, parents. Me too! I also have faith in that Gods word is pure truth. Maybe you should prepare for hell. But a good father would prepare for a better place for his children just as God has prepared a better place for His followers. Using your brain is part of free will. It's your choice.

I need a reference to "Prepare for Hell". I'm sure God has provided one as most of the bible teaches much more about the fear of hell(another of God's creations) than of heaven.

How can an all loving God create a world where his children suffer so? And not just the "evil" doers, but the children, the sick and the innocent? This is one screwed up religion you believe in.

Sorry, rafe. My great great grandfather robbed a bank but they haven't thrown me in jail yet. I always hear this 'god sacrificed his only son to die for our sins". It wasn't as though god had a vasectomy and couldn't have more children. He's god for crissakes, he could have a zillion sons. Where's the big sacrifice in that? I know you didn't make this stuff up. It was written thousands of years ago and this is what you were TAUGHT to believe. The problem you have is that the way many religions are designed, if you simply question or doubt any of the dogma you are rejecting god's commands and will not be saved. It is a psychological trap that keeps many from questioning their faith. Most become religious because :

1) Environmental influences
2) Desire and need for hope
3) Act of desperation (chronic pain, addiction, PTSD, etc.)
4) Mental illness
5) Genetic (lower than average IQ)
6) All of the above

Also, rafe, when I hear grown men say they believe in demons their credibility becomes not only questionable but outright nil.

The Bible states that " God's thoughts are not our thoughts, No man knows the thoughts of God." You can only get those answers from God.

Wow, your answer to every question is simply "blind faith". According to you, God created us, gave us a brain but doesn't want us to use it.

I'm a very spiritual person but not religious. You seem to belong to the later.

"Religion is for those who are scared of going to hell. Spirituality is for those who have already been there."
