My first camera was a Canon AT-1. My sister was dating a professional photographer and he insisted my first camera should be a manual focus with built-in metering that required me to adjust the shutter and aperture. He believed auto cameras were fine but I should learn the basics first to understand what the camera was doing. He also believed glass was important and delivered it with a Canon 50mm 1.4. I still own it.

Sorry. My brain read 17-55 and thought 17-35. Wow.

I have been using a Nikon 12-24. However, after looking at what I choosing most of the time in my landscape pictures I found most of the shots were at the upper end. I believe I will be selling the 12-24 and buying a Nikon 16-35 f4. Just a personal anecdotal story. Good luck.

Being a senior myself my advice is it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. At this point in my life if I want it, if I can afford it and it gives me pleasure I buy it. That's my 2 cents

He's not using the sub-command dial to change the aperture, he's using the aperture ring. The video is simply showing how to set up a Nikon DSLR that meters with MF lenses to be able to use a MF lens and get EXIF info.... Nothing to do with changing the aperture via the sub-command dial

Looking at the video a second time I do believe you are correct. I must be recalling things incorrectly. Turning the aperture ring is not any more difficult so it really is not an issue. Thank you.

None of the Nikon DSLR can change the aperture of a non CPU lens with the sub command dial. I think the OP remember not correctly.

I must admit that l only used the lens a few times on the D7000, but I am somewhat sure that setting the aperture at the highest number allowed the dial to change the aperture. However, I wouldn’t bet my life on it. The idea of locking the aperture in place sounds familiar. I will check it out.

I now own a Nikon D7200 purchased after I wore out my D7000. I also own a Micro-Nikor 105mm 1:2.8 #1455 Non CPU lens. When mounted on the D7000 I was able to change aperture in M and A mode using the sub-dial and without having to turn the aperture ring. I entered the lens data on the D7200 in the non cpu setup menu.
The issue is that for some reason the sub-dial does not change the aperture. I haven't use the lens for a few months and know I am forgetting something. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

A test drive is a different experience in Northern New Hampshire. I was told to tale a pickup truck 35 miles to my home for a day or two and let them know what I thought. Interesting.

Thanks to everyone for the information. This move away from Apple is not going to be as easy as I hoped. I should have moved away from Apple sooner. I have kept many of the photos on the original SD cards anticipating some of this. Time to move on.

I bet Adobe support could give you all the information you need.

I will call if I have to, but I was hoping to get information from someone who has already done the same thing. For clarification, the photo's are now in iPhoto and Apple Aperture programs. I made a mistake and typed Apple Elements in the initial post.

"before looking for a new Adobe photo processing program"..... Like what? You may want to skip this step if it is temporary.

My assumption was if I create a Library in Elements I could eventually attempt Lightroom. Since both are Adobe my thought is they are compatible. However, I could be wrong.

I would appreciate help with finding a link to help me move my iPhoto and Apple Elements library to Adobe Elements Organizer. I have an older version - Elements 14 - and before looking for a new Adobe photo processing program I want to move everything. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time, effort and expertise.
