I bought the Panasonic camera you mentioned. I have always been a fan of Sony, but wanted something lighter. I went to Costa Rica and the autofocus on the Panasonic was totally unacceptable. Almost all my images were worthless. I wish I had paid the extra and bought the Sony.

Read anything by Royce Bair and you will have a good start. He has a book out that has great steps for beginners.

Great info. I will check it out. Thanks for the tip. P.S. The "E" was my error. I am just trying to get used and learn the Olympus camera. I always have used Sony, but I need something lighter now and just bought the Olympus recently.

Thank you for the great response. I agree completely with your answer. I am quite familiar with Milky Way photography, but have not done any since COVID because of the physical condition it left me in. But, I am like you in that I just enjoy being outside during the coolness of the night and beauty of the Milky Way. I am a bit crazy I guess, but I like the thrill of the coyote call and the possibility of seeing a rattlesnake and it is all a part of the adventure. I’m not trying to make an award winning image, but to have the experience and recall it when I look at the print.

Before COVID, I used to love to do Milky Way photography. I used a (at that time new) Sony A7RII and had a couple good lenses for the purpose. I ended up with long COVID the left me unable to walk well. I sold my Sony and lenses and bought an Olympus OM-M5 Mark III realizing I probably wouldn't be doing any Milky Way photography any more. But, I am wondering if anyone has been doing Milky Photography with Olympus cameras, what lenses do you find best and want are your typical settings?

Borrowing a PC is a great idea. I shouldn't have to do that, but such is life. THANK YOU!!

I am wondering about that. It has the original firmware and there have been numerous upgrades.

I bought an OM5 Riii micro 4/3 camera a few months ago. It needs a firmware update. I use an iMac (not with the new chip), but can’t figure you how to do it. I keep hitting a brick wall when trying to download the Olympus Workspace. Does anyone have a workaround? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I switched to Olympus from Sony. My sole reasons were reduced weight and weather sealing. I am happy so far, but I am not as critical as many.

Kent,

The package arrived Wednesday morning, and I took some photos later in the day. The lens works like a dream and the quality of the pictures is great. I’ll send you one later when I get home.

Thanks for helping me compete my collection of high quality lenses.

Rick

I am glad you are happy. I was just this moment checking the tracking number to be sure it arrived. I loved the lens for milky way photography, but had a stroke caused by COVID and now my walking is impaired. So walking around in the dark is just not a good idea for me.

Thank you for the reply.

What condition is item 3 the 24-240? And do you have the original box etc?
I would like to put first dibs on it.

Sorry for delaying so long. The lens is in perfect working condition with no scratches or dents. I do not have the original box however. Storage space is at a premium at my house, so I didn't keep it. Are you still interested? I can forward some photos if that would help.

I received your payment after getting my PayPal account straightened out. I will ship the lens in the morning. I have a second padded case that I got with hate lens that I will send along as well as the new one I bought. I will never use and you probably will get some use out of it.

Thanks
