I have a Nikon D500 and I'm wondering what would be the best lens for this camera when I want to take Landscapes. I didn't get the camera with landscape photography in mind, but every so often I want to be able to use it for that purpose. I currently have 3 lenses for the camera, a NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G, a NIKKOR 17-55 f/2.8G and a NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G. I don't want to buy an FX lens because they are too heavy and I have no intentions of upgrading to a FF camera. The DX lenses are lighter as well as less expensive. I prefer to use a NIKKOR lens. Thanks in advance.

The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is a good DX lens if you want to stay with Nikkor. The Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX is a better lens and a tad less expensive.

Hi folks.
I am seriously thinking to replace my two kit lenses (18-55 and 50-200mm) with a Nikon 18-200.
I heard the tend to have issues when pointed straight up or down.
Which is really not a dealbreaker for me.
I just upgraded from a nikon D3200 to a D7200 and I think my skills have improved a little, and want the advantages of not having to change lenses every five minutes while on vacations.
I have been shooting with my trusty 50mm lens, and I like it a lot, specially the bokeh it gives.
I do mostly portraits but I also like to go outdoors and shoot at birds, landscape etc. Imputs will be really appreciated.
Thanks!

It stays on a D300s 90% of the time and I throw the 35mm 1.8 in my pocket for low light. Great lens. Keep the 28~300 on a FX body.

Question: Does any one know of a company that will let you buy a lens on payments? I'm looking to buy a $2400 lens, it would be a lot easier to pay $200 a month for a year then to pay it all at once.

Answer: Bank of Willie. Location: Sock drawer. Method - 1. Deposit $200/month for a year. 2. Go to store and buy for cash.

Nikon user here so not familiar with Canon lenses. For the work you picture here I've used a 24mm F2.0 lens all day long. If Canon has something close to that, go for it. If you're choosing between more than one, go with the lens having the most blades in the diaphragm.

Yes. Many carry both FX and DX.

I have the 18~200 VRII on a D300s body all the time and a 28~300 on a D810 as well. Other choices in both formats are in the closet yet these lenses remain on the bodies more than 90% of the time. They travel well, are well balanced with the cameras and rarely have me wishing I'd mounted a different lens. Put a 18~300 on your camera and a 35mm f1.8 in your pocket for low light, non-flash situations and you'll be ready for anything.

Am after some advice again please? Going to invest in a D7200. As far as lenses go I thought I was settled but am in a dilemma again now.
Would you say the 2 lenses mentioned above create too much of an overlap? Would it be better to go for a. 55-200 or 70-300 to complement the 35mm lens?
What would you say?

Thanks in advance

Your original plan is best. Have an 18~200 on a DX body and a 28~300 on a FX body. Have a closet full of expensive glass yet these two lenses remain on these bodies 95% of the time. Low light/in doors the 35mm 1.8 is the go-to lens on DX. Enjoy your new tools!

I am going to South Africa and whilst there I will be visiting some game parks. I have a Nikon D300S with a AF-S 18-200mm lens. Should I buy a different lens to get better close up pictures, if so what are your recommendations on a more suitable lens.

With the D300s may I suggest the Nikkor AF-S 70-300 f4.5-5.6. Zoomed out it will give you a 450mm effective field of view on your DX crop sensor body. I've used this combination at baseball games with good results. The lens is well balanced with the D300s and a more comfortable carry than my heavier FX gear.

H-E-L-L-O fellow photography enthusiasts!

Cheers to a fantastic 2014 and a even brighter future in 2015!

I'm looking to purchase my first ever professional camera ASAP. Take advantage of the year end deals.
niche: documentary photojournalism and lifestyle photography

I'm 5'3 and petite so I'm looking for a lighter camera body. I'm also a guitarist, so a lighter camera body would be easier on my hand and wrist. My first brand loyalty is Canon, but the Mark 3 is VERY heavy and bulky.

I want to free-lance and specialize in baby/maternity/family portrait sessions. Then eventually work my way to wedding photography. I'm taking intro to film making in Jan 2015 at my local community college. So a camera with superb video and photography is a must.

My topic choice is Sony A7R and lens 24-70 f2.8
Budget: $3,500
Also need a tripod, too.
Any brand and model recommendations for the camera body, lens, kit deals, tripod?

Thanks in advance for your input and comments!

The Nikon D750 with the excellent 24~120 kit lens would fit your budget with $500 left for memory cards, protective filter, extra battery and tripod.

I have a Nikon D300 and 3 lenses including an 18-200 which is by far my most used and favorite lens. I am thinking about getting a D750. I'd like to start with a high quality FX Lens that approximates my DX 18-200. What lens do you recommend?
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

Have the D300s and 18-200. Duplicated that range and versatility with the D810 and 28-300. Note: the lenses mentioned are "do-all" walk-around lenses to replace a bag full of lenses. The D300 was great in its day but 7 year old technology. The D750 is far superior with image quality to match. To fully appreciate what it can do you'll want some fast prime lenses. As mentioned earlier, the 24-120 f4 kit lens offered at the holiday sale price of $3000 for body and lens is a real bargain.

Hi UHH, I will be purchasing the D810 in the very very near future! My Old Trusted D700 will stay Warm and Safe as my Reliable Backup. I use the Hoodman 18 gig cards that have never failed me yet. My Question is? Since I will have much larger files in Raw or RawS 9mg, how big of a Compact flash card should I Buy 64, 128, or larger? How about the SD cards do you buy the 256? I do not plan on Video. What Do you think of the Sandisk Pro. Or a Good Quality Cards. Thanks I am abit lost with this card issue. Thanks would always treasure your Thoughts. I have been receiving discounts from Nikon $300 off the camera! And that is before Christmas, I am waiting for the early January sales, when people do not have $$$ to spend on Camera, Just Waiting for that Special Deal!!!! On the D810 I'm using Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB. Shoot RAW to the CF and fine JPGs to the SD. Have a second CF if the first one fills. [These are UDMA 7.] Have used Sandisks on all Nikon digitals and never had a failure. As for the Nikon rebate: it's been my experience that holiday rebates go away after Christmas. However, deals on storage media continue a week or two longer.

Ok I got the body on cyber Monday sale. I am still very confused about which lens or lens' to get. I need one good all around lens if possible for closeup, zoom, landscape.

I have heard 18-70, 18-300, 55-300, 18-140. Will one do or do I need two or more. I am new to this and don't want to get a lens and find out it is wrong. most packages come with a 18-55.

This week B&H Photo has the D5300 with the 18-300 VR Nikkor zoom for $1400. That's a $200 saving on the lens. It's the only lens needed for 90% of shooting. Down the road a 10-24 wide zoom might be nice and a 35MM f1.8 prime to keep in your pocket for low light situations. It's the setup I used when I shot DX.

New to Nikon and was wondering if this setup would work good together and if that lens is actually compatible with that body? Always been a Canon man but was thinking about throwing this into the arsenal. I saw on Amazon that this lens is not compatible with this body? Does anyone if this is true? Thanks in advance. Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

They work well together. Be aware the 70-300MM VR is a telephoto zoom and on a DX Nikon body it will give you an effective range of 105-450MM. You'll need shorter focal length lenses for normal and wide angle photography.
