This is very pretty-- what did you set the rings on? I like the color, etc.

Can not help much with the natural light part but I was playing around while it was raining a few weeks ago and got these of mine and the wife's rings using my 105mm Macro and off camera flash thought they turned out OK.

Just a few suggestions, if it's not too late-- I would use a different font on the "Eagle Photography". It's quite a formal font with a very vintage/rustic photo. Also, I'd put your logo in the lower right corner and put the wedding date on the window. Although photographers want to advertise their work, I feel the focus might be more appropriate on the couple. Cute pic!

What photo editing program did you use?

My daughter accepted a marriage proposal this morning. Her fiance gave us a "heads up" earlier and I asked to shoot some photos the last time they were in town. Here is their official engagement photo. Feedback is appreciated.

GIMP is free. You shouldn't have to pay for it.

I'm actually getting ready to embark on a big project of scanning, etc., SO... THANK YOU for this advice! :)
saichiez wrote:
The Answer You Were Really Looking For, and perhaps one person actually read what you asked. YOU SAID SOMEONE WHO WOULD DO THIS FOR YOU. So far most answers would have you spending hours doing this yourself... HOURS! (how much time? At an optimistic consideration of 5 minutes per scan doing it yourself, 300 slides would take about 25 hours or 2/3 of a full work week)

I suggest you consider:

http://www.scancafe.com/services/photo-scanning

Take a look. Or, search online for photo scanning services.

Scanning paper photos yourself is a PITA!! Standing (or sitting) at a kiosk or your own scanner takes huge amounts of time out of your day. Now if your time has NO value, and you have the time to learn a totally new NON intuitive process, go to Walmart, Fred Meyer, Costco, whatever, and spend huge amounts of your own time.

I bought three scanners and almost immediately sold them within 30 days of buying them. Getting a GOOD scan takes time PER scan.

ScanCafe gets my business now, for slides and paper photos.

BONUS TIP: Ask about video slide presentations on DVD that can be played in a Media Center or Home Entertainment system.

OR. Buy the program ProShow Gold (About $60).

ProShow Gold is a relatively easy to use presentation program that allows

-Narration
-Music Track
-Random or Guided selection of images
-Length of time images on screen PER image, Or All the same
-Over 300 Transitions
-Transitions individually or single selection timed
-Simple or Complex by YOUR Choice

And more. http://www.photodex.com/proshow/gold

Why not turn this into a REAL Project the attendees will appreciate. Take orders for the ProShow Presentation on DVD and then fulfill the orders later... $5-10 per presentation, plus postage. Or, better yet, burn a bunch and either "gift" them at the Reunion, or sell them at $5.

It's the American Way!

Spend your time on making a Professional Presentation, Not on scanning on your own time.

I'm with ALYN, Picasa is good. I especially like the way folders are indexed, makes finding them a lot easier. I also use it at work where finding a random photo taken years earlier is so much easier than opening each folder, searching, going to the next and so on. With Picasa I just scroll through the folders and group photos and when I see something familiar, I can then open that folder and start searching closer.

That's all I have ever used. However, do you have any suggestions on a program (similar to Picasa) that I can access from any computer? I can only edit, etc. on the computer I downloaded pics on. Hope this made sense! :)

A number of the UHH members are using it and giving it favorable reviews and it is supposed to be easy to figure out. Best yet, it is free!! It is online only, so you can use it from any computer with Internet service.

Hmmm... It seems like that is the going price. It is less than half of what Sony's cheap ones are going for. The good thing is that it will work on a full frame camera such as the a99 as well.

If it is in great shape and you can send it back for a refund if need be, then I would say go for it.

Thank you for your time! BTW, where do you find the best prices on lenses? I found this one on keh.com.

Minolta Maxxum - Fixed Focal Length Lenses
100 F2.8 MACRO (55)

As tainkc has stated Sony makes some fine macro lenses. Mu suggestion would be to start with the Sony 100mm macro lens. This is a great lens. I use this lens. I also use the Sony 30mm macro lens. Handholding the the 30mm macro when photographing gardens is great. It is F1.8 allowing good control of DOF and it produces sharp images as well. I would also suggest avoiding the Sony 50mm macro lens, instead get the Sony 50mm f1.4 lens.
