Somebody got an excellent deal on this. You did give it away. You did a nice thing.

Hmmm ... looks a bit soft in the corners!

Surely you jest. It's called bokeh. That lens is doing an excellent job of what it was made for. I am a Canon fan but this picture is excellent even by Canon standards.

Soft in the corners what BS.

That's Great.

Is there a search button in Lightroom? How do I find a photo in Lightroom?

I understand your frustration,

1.Go to "Library" mode in LR.

2.Click on "View" in the Tool bar at the top of your screen (i.e. Lightroom, File, Edit, Library, Photo, Metadata, View, Window, Help).

3.Click on Grid and you should notice a new line showing up in the top middle of your LR screen. i.e. Library Filter: Text, Attribute, Metadata, none.... Custom Filter.

4. Now you can create a search. Click on "Text" and type in the name of the photo you want to find in the search field.

5.Click on "Attribute" to search for pictures you have previously rated by colour, flag or Star system.

6. If you have inserted Key Words/Tags into the Metadata then I believe you can search by clicking on the Metadata and adding a key word to search. You can even sort your search taken by certain lenses of camera.

I do not pretend to be an expert but if you do what I said I think you can at least have a starting point doing searches.

For the longest time I was looking for "Find" or a "Go To" icon but last week I had somebody show me and it is pretty simple ONCE you have a starting point.

I hope I have given you that starting point.

I fairly recently subscribed to lightroom5 and am having difficulty exporting images from it into the hog. Would someone please describe a correct procedure, keeping it as simple as possible because my technical knowledge is limited! I'm very hesitant to experiment on my own even though I have Kelby's book, as I have spent about half of my time in the last two months in big trouble! Please accept my grateful thanks in advance!

My Process:
1. Make a blank folder on my desktop. Label it something simple - UHH , Lightroom Desktop Exports, or whatever.

2. Export out of Lightroom the pictures you want to the Desktop folder. Ensure you export as a Jpg. to reduce the file size also I prefer saving colour space as sRGB for web work.

3. Go to UHH and from there choose your picture from the "Choose File" dialog box.

4. Pick the File folder on your Desktop from the menu tree then click on the picture you want. Click "OK in the bottom right of the folder frame.

5. This takes you back to UHH screen. DO NOT PREVIEW postings where you have added an picture. It will just send your computer into endless time clock mode. You may click on "store original" this enables the viewer to download your photograph with metadata and without any further compression. Or you may choose to not "store original" by not checking off the box in which case the viewer can only see the picture in it's compressed jpg form, no metadata.
6. Finally click on "Send" NOT "Preview". For your info a photo uploaded with the "store original" will almost always take longer than a photo unchecked. Also uploading can take a long time (sometimes) like several minutes. Don't be impatient.

All of them will work with any camera that has a hot shoe, to the best of my knowledge, however I shoot a Pentax and know very little about Nikons. I have put batteries in each of them.... with the exception of the little J.C. Penney's unit.... and they all flash when triggered manually.

All flashes do not work with all Hot Shoes. Maybe in the world of film cameras all flashes work with all hot shoes but not in the digital age.

In the world of Canon, who has issued a listing of what old flashes will or won't work with, there are several that will not only not work but may fry your camera's circuit board. I have no idea how to find the listing, someone here on UHH posted a link about a year ago and I found that two of my old flashes could be dangerous to my DSLR.

That said, if there are dangerous flashes for Canon you can bet your boots that Nikon will have issues with some older flashes too. I suggest a person contact the camera manufacturer to determine compatibility.

I would rephrase that as "Colour is one aspect of many in an image to be judged in a contest."

Should a colorblind person be banned from judgeing a
photo-contest?

If the person is one of several judges then no, as long as the judge is qualified AND consistent I think it may improve the judgement.

If the colourblind person was the only judge then yes unless the contest was for B/W photos only.

This would make a nice tall-portrait.
- crop in past the tree on the left
- crop in to about half the tree on the right
- crop up above the store sign
- leave the rest

Thanks for sharing! S-

I was about to say exactly this. Great minds do think alike. Wonderful photograph.

The article says it will not develop new versions of Aperture but it still supports the current version with upgrades such as new Camera RAW for new cameras as they are released. You probably will not get the new holograph program as an upgrade when it is finally created. I believe Aperture (or a new named version) will continue for a long time to come. I'm not trying to start a rumour here but I bet if the day comes where Aperture becomes obsolete Apple will replace it free same as they have been doing with their last two operating systems.

With the price of upgrades approximately once a year for 90.00, does it make sense to hold on to cs6 and lightroom or go for cc? Am I looking at it the wrong way?

I did the math and it made total sense for me to to do the same upgrade as what you are thinking. You can't help but save money in the long run and you always have the most current software available with CC.

Why are people saying Aperture is not being supported by Apple? I still get updates from Apple quite regularly. The most current one was Dec. 16th.
I really get tired with all these unsubstantiated rumours from people who are fanboys of competing products. Be it Apple, Canon, Nikon, etc.
It amazes me how critics try to show how they think know more than the companies that release.

When practical, use a tripod/monopod. It helps you slow down and think about the shot. Also steadies your camera better than what anybody can do by handheld.

And definitely what Lighthouse said, especially "Good enough is NOT good enough" All good enough means is you could have done better but gave up. This is a life lesson I have tried to live by all my life. Not settling for "good enough" does not mean it will be better than others but it does mean you gave it your best.
