AS I understand it the inflation percentages are a year over year percentage. In July 2021 inflation was 5.4 % over what prices were the previous July (2020) - then in July 2022 the inflation was ANOTHER 8.3 % higher than it was in July 2021. So the cumulative effect is much greater than the current 8.3 figure. Example - $100 price in July 2020. Up 5.4% is 105.40 in July 2021. Up 8.3 in Jul 2022 equals 114.14. Inflation up 14.14 % over two years - and it keeps going.

I have the same problem when looking at moon craters- have to make a conscious adjustment to see them as craters and not mounds. I can do that because I know they are craters - if you had not told us they were empty, and taken a poll on who saw empty and who saw full, I wonder how many people would have seen them correctly.

I've always known this plant as bindweed or farmers foe - what Bob said about fouling the equipment with the tough vines.

That is beautiful - I have a poster of the full moon from the Lick Observatory- not sure what year, probably the 80's and I think yours is as good or better than that one

In the same taco speech she went further to insult the Latinos in butchering Bodega with some idiot pronunciation only a lib who only hangs with the white DC crowd could say.

What I find especially weird in her mispronunciation of bodega (aside from her hanging out with the wrong crowd) is that she apparently doesn't even watch the news. There has just this week been much coverage of the bodega owner in NYC being prosecuted for murdering his attacker. In all the news clips I have seen the word bodega is used and pronounced correctly.

WOW , what a perfect shot - just what I needed to see today. The two little birdies at the top of the middle tree are the icing on the cake. Thanks for posting this beautiful picture.

Nice shots - they remind me of the cemetery in Troy, Ny that has Uncle Sam's grave. There is a beautiful stone chapel at the entrance, and many graves like the ones in your pictures. When I was working a couple of days in Elmira, NY I saw signs pointing to Mark Twain's gravesite, so of course I had to visit there. A very small gravesite at a day use area on the Sacandaga River has a large percentage of stones for very young children, apparently victims of the epidemic in the early 1900's - sadly it is not maintained, but at least the power company that owns the land has put a small fence around it so the day visitors do not disturb it. And the cemetery where my parents are is of course a favorite, and when we drive around it we stop at the sites of many other locals that we have known and loved. When I was in college I had a friend in the Bronx whose parents lived in a little house at the end of a dead end street with an entrance to a huge cemetery. It was his favorite place to go for peace and quiet. We were there on New Year's Eve one year, and in the middle of our walk around we started hearing a distant roar- it was the fireworks display in NYC and the sounds of the crowd and fireworks was a distant muffled roar- I'll never forget that visit. I don't find cemeteries creepy at all.

Do you mean that someone STOLE your hives? That's terrible. I saw something on TV last week about thieves stealing hives. One beekeeper had to resort to putting out decoy hives- I forget exactly what his process was.
Your bee pictures are outstanding - thanks for posting even if it has to be from your archives.

I still have my scrapbook of souvenirs from the 64 Worlds Fair. And the Belgian waffles were great!! There was a booth that would print out the front page headline of the newspaper for the day you were born. They put the wrong year in on mine so I got one that is 10 years after my birthday.

Ray Bradbury in "I, Robot" addressed this fearsome possibility... and "I can't do that, Dave" in "2001" still resonates as one of the scariest lines in any fantasy movie...

Ray Bradbury is one great writer, but he did not write I,Robot- that was another great- Isaac Asimov

I have a feeling that whatever the percentage increase is, it will evaporate once the increased Medicare contribution is applied, as it has for me over the past few years. I end up with about a $2.00 increase per month. This will be more than eaten up by the increased fuel costs for heating next winter.
