A fall leaf in Asheville, NC. This from a larger photo of a tree branch. I picked this out to use. The original was shot with an IPhone 11. Sure surprised me on its quality.

Well thanks for the advice and help. I am not surprised at the "negativity" about this subject since I am highly skeptical of doing any photo marketing at all these days. I have been a professional photographer for about 55yrs and have seen it go from great to poor. With the current economic times it is a terrible time to try much of anything. But I am going to do a gallery website, get the word out about it, and see what happens. Fine Art America is a possibility and maybe some others, but I was not expecting to get rich. Same with shows; might be fun occasionally. Meanwhile, I am just going to enjoy photography and if something sells, I will fall out of my chair! LOL...
I really do appreciate the opinions expressed here; it really just confirmed what I was thinking anyway. I guess I have seen to many ads for getting rich in photography over the years! I feel sorry somewhat when people I meet want to be photographers and think they are going to get rich. The only real richness I see in photography today is the great enjoyment I get from doing it for myself and at 70, that is good!
Thanks again; I hear some Photoshop calling my name to come play awhile....

I am considering trying to market some of my photograpy. Like everyone, I could use the money! I have looked at a number of different places. Stock photo businesses don't really interest me. I have looked at Smugmug, Pinterest, Etsy, Spotify, Instagram, etc. I am wanting to sell 8x10 to 30x40 prints for decorator art, wall hanging and such. Also, artistic greeting cards, etc. I am also considering the possibility of limited addition work. Starting pricing would be in the $35-50 range and up depending on size, mounting, framing.

A couple of questions; Anybody have suggestions concerning who to sell with. I am leaning towards an Etsy type service because of the individual attention I can do with it. But I may be wrong.
Also, I have read how you can get rich doing this. I am not that naive to believe that although I guess it is possible! Does anyone on the 'Hog sell their landscaping, nature, etc. and do pretty good. I don't mind working the job hard if it actually works. I have read testimonials that services provide and they sound great but I would like to hear people starting out small and/or in business for up to a year.
I appreciate any advice including "don't do it" or "you're nuts" or something else. (grin!)
Thanks
Steve

Thank you, Dan, for suggesting the AI DAP Pro! It seems significantly better than Fotosketcher and the price is not too bad. I visited your website and saw your beautiful work. Were the painting effects there from DAP? I think they look really great. I love the West and Alaska; it was nice seeing your rendition of sights I have seen. Well done.
Anyway, thanks for recommendation. I think I will play with it some more and probably purchase it.

It is photo I shot one evening. Brought into PS and post editing. Ran it with different parameters in the computer paint program till I got something I like. There are lots of parameters and or combinations. Final version took less than a minute to render. There was no hands on brushwork. Like I said I am not a painter. I forgot the paint program also has a framing section as well as different paper textures including canvas.

I hope I have posted to the right place; if not my apologies.
I have been trying some computer painting with a program called Fotosketcher. I think the program is great and suggest you might try it... ITS FREE! Other than using it, I have no affiliation with the author Google or whatever should bring it up. I have tried Coral Painter, and various techniques in PS, as well as Topaz, and others. This is the first one I "think" I can use. I will admit to NOT being a painter digital or otherwise. I can't paint a door either!! That said:
I would like opinions on this example photo as to whether you think it is effective as a "painting". Are there problems with it that you can comment on concerning its viability as a painting or should I consider another term for the painting? My personal opinion is that it is pretty good for what it is. I was thinking of offering some of my photographs for sale online and was thinking about offering this type of work as an option. I also have been trying to find out if there is a market for this type of painting for decorator art.
I appreciate your opinions good or bad on the technique; critique the image as well if you want to do that.
Thanks
Steve

I agree with you. I can’t paint a wall but the program works really well. It is called Fotosketcher and it is free! I has tons of parameters to adjust, fast, YouTube videos. Some Best paint program I have seen for those of us with no painting talent (me)! I will post some more paintings on here later. I still prefer regular photos but some clients have ask about getting some photo painted and they seem happy with what I am doing. I have no relationship with the software other than I like it. Check it out! Thanks

Well, it has been a long time since I signed on to the Hog. Some things have changed others have not. I am now 70. I have been in photography professionally for about 55 yrs now. I am sorta retired now but still shooting. Now I still take pets/animal photos but not many people. I am currently going thru about 55 years of my work. Mainly non people shots. Some are good, others are what was i thinking! I am going to try to sell some of these as “art”. Seems to be a waste to oughtjust let them sit. It’s a new ventureto me so I will have lots of questions!
What has not changed is my love of photography, my criticism of my work (hard), love and appreciation of the Hog. Even though I haven’t posted in a long time I have been seeeing y’all’s photos and thoughts thru the digests, a great idea. Anyway, I have rambled enough. I look forward to talking, listening, advising, helping, sharing photography.
Thanks

Hank is a talker!! Yes he barks some but not too bad. He acts like he is trying to talk with whines, grrrr, mouth noises etc. particularly when he doesn’t get his way. Good temperment and not bad lapdog at 50lbs. His older brother a lab/pit mix is also a lap dog. Sometimes they both get in the recliner with me. About 140 lbs and sleep.🤪
