I hope I have posted to the right place; if not my apologies.
I have been trying some computer painting with a program called Fotosketcher. I think the program is great and suggest you might try it... ITS FREE! Other than using it, I have no affiliation with the author Google or whatever should bring it up. I have tried Coral Painter, and various techniques in PS, as well as Topaz, and others. This is the first one I "think" I can use. I will admit to NOT being a painter digital or otherwise. I can't paint a door either!! That said:
I would like opinions on this example photo as to whether you think it is effective as a "painting". Are there problems with it that you can comment on concerning its viability as a painting or should I consider another term for the painting? My personal opinion is that it is pretty good for what it is. I was thinking of offering some of my photographs for sale online and was thinking about offering this type of work as an option. I also have been trying to find out if there is a market for this type of painting for decorator art.
I appreciate your opinions good or bad on the technique; critique the image as well if you want to do that.
Thanks
Steve
Looks like a painting to me, well done.
Not the greatest, but good enough to encourage you to keep at it. If this is your first, I’d strongly encourage you to continue to develop this interest. Looks to me that with practice your skills could really develop.

That's cool.
Just my own personal preference, I'd have the horizon a little bit lower, not dividing the image in half, and a little less detail. IE. bigger swaths of solid blending color. Most wet on wet & watercolor technique works that way.
It does look like a painting, good try.
I like it and it does look like a painting. Few questions though, was it a photo first, is it done just with filters or a photo as ref and done with you drawing it or painting it? I would not call it just a painting because it implying it is a reproduction of on. Digital painting or digital art would be better in my opinion. Keep it up though if you want to sell your work I would recommend redbubble for a start. Good luck!
It is photo I shot one evening. Brought into PS and post editing. Ran it with different parameters in the computer paint program till I got something I like. There are lots of parameters and or combinations. Final version took less than a minute to render. There was no hands on brushwork. Like I said I am not a painter. I forgot the paint program also has a framing section as well as different paper textures including canvas.

I like the result, but you might like what you can do with Dynamic Auto Painter Pro more. Unlike Photosketcher, it's not free. However, you can download it for a free trial.

The top one looks like an impressionist painting, the bottom a watercolor.

You’re getting good results using that program - I have it but can’t seem to get much of any results when I try to apply an effect. I can’t determine what I’m doing wrong and the online tutorial is difficult to follow for me.

I like this one. Beautifully done!
I agree, it looks like a painting
Thank you, Dan, for suggesting the AI DAP Pro! It seems significantly better than Fotosketcher and the price is not too bad. I visited your website and saw your beautiful work. Were the painting effects there from DAP? I think they look really great. I love the West and Alaska; it was nice seeing your rendition of sights I have seen. Well done.
Anyway, thanks for recommendation. I think I will play with it some more and probably purchase it.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, nearly all of the "painterly" effects were produced with DAP Pro.
