It was the people on the stairs partly why I cropped the image. The trouble is that those stairs were a thoroughfare down to the restaurant Nightski. But the more I look at it I'm now starting to like the original more and more.

Beautiful capture. The light is amazing especially on download. Love the soft glow from the evening light on the underside of the nearest gull and the chains hanging down from the roof.
Did you notice the sand castles on the extreme left?

I assume you mean the nuclear bunkers Graham.
Scary.

Beautiful capture Graham. Your B&W street scenes are a must see.
It's lucky that Simon was wearing a semblance of a hat otherwise his facial skin tones would have almost perfectly blended into the right hand part of the blockwork and you would have had to darken that part of the wall.

I think you should try again to put this into coherent sentences so we know what you're trying to tell us.

I think what OddJobber was referring to was :-

Rearrange the above words into a phrase or well known saying.

thanks for sharing the original!

Sorry for delay in posting the original but took ages finding it in an old Lightroom backup catalogue.

I apologize. I should have noticed that you are from the UK and then I wouldn't have used that phrase. It's an
American idiom that refers to the people who talk around the cooler at work on Monday mornings about the weekend's football games. It's easy for them to look back and see what "should" have been done after the game has been played. I guess it's a way of saying that it's always easier to think about what you would have done in hindsight. I think I would have shot the photo exactly the way you shot it, and then when I got home I would have wished I'd done it differently.
I apologize. I should have noticed that you are fr... (show quote)

Thanks for explanation Nightski. I must admit I know nothing about English football, let alone the US version.
As I said earlier I took loads of photos from various angles and earlier in the day before they lit them all up and I felt that this particular shot showed all of the elements I wished to depict.
Here's the base shot before tweaking the WB and exposure and cropping.

The light coming through those balloons is amazing. Looking at this after the fact .. like a Monday morning quarterback .. I would have wanted to have the balloons fill the frame and zoned in on one person whose face is illuminated by them. It may have taken some time to wait for just the right person to come into your frame and look up, but it would have been well worth it. As shot it's a very nice record shot of the event, but the impact could have been so much more.

"like a Monday morning quarterback", I don't know what that means.
I did first think of including my daughter in the shot but the place was heaving with people as down those stairs was a restaurant and a classical string quartet busking.
So I went for the next best thing, taking in the Victorian architecture. I was also pressed for time as we were off to the theatre.
I did take many shots from various advantage points but this I felt was the best one.
I did take this one however of just the balloons.

Can you add time to the trip and travel? This is an opportunity not to be missed. Use the rail pass and see the country! Tokyo is great, but the rest of the country is a non-stop photo-op.

PS. If you are traveling with a person of the shopping persuasion, Tokyo is a shoppers paradise. And the exchange rate is great right now.

Will probably go for about 10 days and yes will be going with 2 people of the shopping persuasion (as you so tactfully put )

Taken 3/9/2015. Early evening the various sized 100,000 balloons are illuminated by pulsating lights to represent the heart beat.
Heart Beat - Installation by Charles Pétillon at Covent Garden
Weaving its way through the South Hall of the Grade II listed Market Building, Heartbeat stretches 54 metres in length and 12 metres in width, and incorporates gentle pulsating white light to symbolise the beating of a heart and reflect the history, energy and dynamism of the district.
For this particular shot I attempted to capture as many of the balloons lit and incorporate as much of the Victorian ironworl

Great photo Graham as usual, your B&W by far my favourite. As for the 3 objects on the road, the photo would still be as effective if 3 other similarly sized random objects were similarly placed.

I'm possibly going to Japan for a family wedding in Tokyo April 2016. Has anyone else been and can recommend any must see photo opportunities.
Also what lens to take for my Canon 5D Mk iii, or might it be worthwhile buying lenses out there.

Yes, I'd established that from my googling but what I haven't been able to establish is what is the overall effect/look is likely to result in the final mounting.

You might want to google it for the difference.

Does it affect the quality of the picture? No, they are support only, not the medium that the pictures are printed on*.

The print is glued/pressed onto the board.

(I'll go for the cheapest as it is for a school project - EVEN university level)

* That is where the real choice is...

Thanks for that. I did actually google it before asking here but most explained the difference in composition not what the final effect would be.
A lot of the sites talked about printing directly onto the foam and not mounting prints.
