I used to look forward to sitting down at night and watching some mindless TV. Unfortunately, it seems that I've seen it all. As I go through everything offered on Netflix and Amazon Prime, I've either seen it all, or the movies are too mindless. There is so much repetition of subject matter - ghosts, people being killed in cabins in the woods, zombies, and the apocalypse. I generally like creepy movies because I find them funny. Teenage girls hear a noise in the dark basement, so, naturally, they do down there. People run from the killer, slam the door, and then put their backs up against it, forgetting that doors won't stop a bullet or a knife. And, of course, when the movie is over and the monster is killed, we see it begin to move again as the screen goes black.

If you want some interesting TV, try movies from foreign countries. I like watching movies from China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Europe. Bollywood movies are fascinating with their huge musical production numbers that pop up for no apparent reason. I find the foreign languages interesting, and I'm always surprised when foreigners throw an English sentence or two into the conversation. It's interesting to see how things work in foreign countries. In France, for example, the judge is deeply involved in the investigation of a case before it goes to trial.

My favorite TV, though, is science documentaries. There have been so many excellent series, but they all come to an end. I can never get enough of outer space or sub-atomic science. I don't have to understand it to appreciate it. If you haven't looked for The Great Courses at your local library, you're missing out on a lot of educational entertainment. Joel Sartore, Nat Geo photographer, has a couple of good series about photography.

I wouldn't recommend any of you Brits visiting SOUTHEND-ON-SEA for photo ops along the Broomway trail. There's an article in the Washington Post about unexploded bombs, quicksand, and dangerous tides. I don't know if this link will work, but here it is.

The cost of an ink cartridge on my R2400 is not $19, but much cheaper from a 3rd party. But I'm afraid of damaging my printer. Has anyone used 3rd party ink cartridges and would they please share their experience?

Amazon replacement inks, no problems and cheap.

A few weeks ago, I posted about replacing the battery in my Oral-B toothbrush. The battery cost about $5.00, and replacement involved taking the brush apart, unsoldering, re-soldering, and reassembling. Very delicate work. It was worth the trouble because the battery breathed new life into the old toothbrush.

Unfortunately, after I reassembled the brush, it was no longer watertight. After a couple of weeks, I saw condensation inside the little window. I took it apart and let it dry. Yesterday, there was more moisture inside, and the brush refused to operate. After sitting disassembled for a few hours, it works again, but sealing it from moisture seems to be a problem. I had to remove the small plastic ring at the top and the larger base at the bottom to take it apart. I can seal both areas with silicone, but then it will be even more difficult to take it apart again. If it leaks and stops working, it's useless, so I'm going to go the silicone route.

After seeing moisture inside the first time, I was very careful about not exposing it to any more water than necessary, but it got in anyway.

Spray with ACF50 this is a water repellant spray, it will displace the water and seal any electrical part, expensive but good.

I had a lot of trouble with eBay/PP someone had hacked into my account from Australia and purchased some dog coins, had a job getting money back, apparently they were changing account passwords, haven't used either since.

UHH members are among the most clever people on earth, so I'm hoping you can come up with a solution to this problem.

Here's the situation. I have to put the gutters back on my house after the roof was replaced. It's a two-story house, so the top of the ladder has to be resting against something. Obviously, if I rest it on the edge of the roof, I wont be able to put the gutters on. Normally, the ladder would rest against the house, and I could easily get to the fascia and install the gutters. Unfortunately, my house has a roof overhang of about 2 1/2', so if the ladder is up against the house, there's no way for me to reach the fascia.

Any ideas?

Hi Jerryc41

The roof drip overhang does not look big enough for a gutter? if it is, fix brackets from ladder, fix gutter off of roof (laying down).

As an airplane is about to crash, a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, "If I'm going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman." She removes all her clothing and asks, "Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?" A man stands up, removes his shirt and says, "Here, iron this!".
