You don't need it but as with many cameras today they come with lots of 'extras' that you wouldn't have got in the past. If the only difference between two compared cameras is one has WI-Fi and the other doesn't go for the one that has Wi-Fi. That said, I have used mine to good effect. I set the camera up in the garden pointing at the bird table and sat in my kitchen, about thirty feet away, watching the birds on my phone and then took photos using the app. You can get a lot closer to the action. It's a nice to have rather than need to have.

I know it's a different brand but the non-Canon batteries I bought (with charger) won't charge in the original Canon charging device. The non-Canon charger stopped working after a year so I have two batteries that are effectively useless unless I buy another (non-Canon) charger. Not sure it's the same with Nikon but worth a thought.

The best camera in the world is the one you have with you when you need it. My camera is not with me 100% of the time but my iPhone is and takes some stunning shots. As an aside to the RAW comments above I've recently toyed with the iPhone's ability to connect wirelessly to my Canon camera. I set the camera up on a tripod pointing at the bird table, activate the camera's wireless capability, connected the iPhone to the Canon's wireless app, Canon Connect, (Free) and by doing so you can see the camera's TTL image on the phone, retreat to the kitchen out of sight and when the birds come feeding, wait for a shot and take it using the phone. I've not perfected it yet and I believe you need to disable the camera's sleep mode. It's a work in progress as I only started yesterday but it seems to have potential.

Stick shift, or manual as we like to call it over the pond is the norm over here. If you pass your test in an automatic you're not allowed to drive a manual on the same licence. The problem when we go abroad and drive a car with the gear stick on the right (rather than on the left) is that we get to wind the window down by mistake quite a lot.

I've just read an article on Tom's Guide (www.tomsguide.com) about the size of prints from digital cameras and the correlation between the two. The article went as follows;

Using the above calculation I figure that a 9" x 9" print will come out at around 7.29MP. I've chosen a square one to make the comparison below a bit easier.

Working backwards from this, my camera, a Canon 760D, has 24.2 MP; the square root of 24.2 million is (roughly) 4920. Divide this number by 300 and I end up with a maximum print size of around 16.4" x 16.4".

This seems a bit small but it won't be the first time my calculations have gone awry.

Question: Does that sound about right?

I have no desire, or intent to print anything bigger, I'm just curious and continuing my learning process.
