Look into Sirui Ball heads. They are a great buy and rock solid with heavier glass.

Does anyone have experience photographing birds at this attraction. I know they have a rookery and they offer photographer passes with extended hours. I have been to the St Augustine Alligator Farm and wondered how Gator Land compares for photography. It would certainly be a lot closer for me.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Unlike the Alligator Farm, Gatorland is predominantly a morning shoot. In the past entrance has been at the south end of the park at 7:30 AM for photographers only, park is not opened till 10 AM , and you are locked in till the park opens. Otherwise, GREAT Shoot, enjoy
You can have any opinion you want and rationalize any way you want, but for me this photo is " The Kings New Suit of Clothes"

Thanks to your feedback and suggestions, I have decided to take the 28-300 to Hawaii. I'll check it out over the next week. I booked with Jack Harter Helicopter for Kauai 1 hour tour. They suggest using a polarizer. Is this really wise given the fast changing lighting conditions. I'll be going late morning, 11-12; the sun will be right up there slightly to the East when beginning the tour. What do you think?
P.S. Also taking my 16-35 for those times that I know I will miss the close quarters. Just ordered the ThinkTank Lens Duo 20 as I think the dimension will hold both lenses. At least one without the hood.
Again...your feedback is sincerely appreciated.

I have done the Jack Harter Doors Off twice. It will be windy and loud. I would suggest that you shoot at a minimum shutter speed of 2000, f stop wide open, since all shots are at distance and depth of field is not a consideration, polarizer iffy, you will be shooting in all directions rapidly and won't really have time to compose and shoot exactly how you want. Also no loose objects on your body, camera has to be strapped to you, and once polarizer is on at the beginning of the flight, it is on for the duration. My personal opinion, leave it off, polarize and edit in post processing.
Have a great flight. I loved it twice.
Depending on the season, the canyons could be mobbed. Upper is wider and tripod is no problem, in lower canyon tripod just gets in the way and I would shoot handheld with higher iso if really crowded. Also, try a lot of HDR's. Lenses from wide to tele, what you choose to shoot depends on your eye, have fun in there, I love the place.
I backed them on Kickstarter because I thought it would be a great product for direct lighting for macro photography. I am glad I did, and hope they survive and prosper. I love the product, can put direct light anywhere I want, the red, greem and blue lights let me accent what I want to, and the diffusers are great. If you do a lot of small or macro photo, you will love the convenience, ease of use, and the results.
It's the Nikon Macro Lens to Vivitar Bellows that has been impossible to find. Thanks for the reply
I have the series 1 Vivitar bellows and would like to get the adapters both for camera body and lens for Nikon. Any ideas where I might find them. I have the Canon adapters for the bellows and would be willing to trade.
Put the camera body in checked luggage. The rest of the gear, lenses, cards, brackets, etc., are not electronic or computer equipment, and can return to the US as a carry on.
Then you are shortchanging your image by working with less data than you initially shot with. If this is your technique, then why not shoot in jpeg so that you will have more room on your memory cards for images.
Lightroom allows you to do your adjustments in camera RAW, while in photoshop you are working in jpeg. Therefore, you should always do your initial post processing in Lightroom where you have so much more data to work with.
Have Ikelite DS 200 Substrobe with 4063.5 Battery Pack. Battery pack is dead, no longer replaceable by Ikelite and not found anywhere on the Internet. Does anyone know anyplace that will replace the NiCad batteries in the unit so that this substrobe can again be used?
By making the photo contests submissions taken only during current times you have created intended and unintended consequences. You have tried to make people go out and shoot more = good. The photos on the whole are of lesser quality and fewer entries then when photographers could submit from their archives = bad. I feel you should take a vote to see what type of photo contests the HOG readers would prefer.
Have a Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW for over 4 years, main zipper broke. Contacted Lowepro, they asked for product code number, and shipped me new Lowepro Singshot 202AW without me having to send back damaged old model. Great customer service, deserves to be recognized.
Fantastic, I loved it, really made me laugh. This is going to draw some heat, but this is what most of the reply's to the forum sound like. Sure there are a few real good nuggets of info or help from a few responders, but most of what I read is pure dribble. For those offended by this remark, Merry Christmas. For those who see the truth shining through, Merry Christmas also.
