My D780 is my ‘FTZ’ for Screw mount lenses. Same live view and eye AF as a z6 … :)

The sigma 18-35 1.8 Art is nice but a bit big and heavy for a walkabout.
Also when used on the D7200 do not use the outer AF points (or use live view). I got good AF accuracy using the Sigma dock and D7200 fine tune settings , except on the outer AF points.

I’ve got one of these ( modified ) and yes it rattles and yes on DSLRs with screw focus motors it gives limited AF to manual lenses . It was way ahead of its time in my opinion.

Started with D610, got the Z6 on release. Almost always use speedlights or strobes. The DSLR form factor does have some advantages (IR focus assist beam and ability to use my screw focus F mount lenses) so I upgraded my D610 to the D780. Love it and using the D780 more than the Z6 now even though the Z lenses are fantastic. I do miss the vertical grip though.

"Tim's Quick Answer:
When you cancel an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, you will actually still have access to Lightroom Classic on your computer, though some features would be limited. Photoshop would no longer be available after your subscription ends"

Thanks for kicking off this discussion, I've just simulated access to LR without subscription by logging in using an Adobe ID without a subscription and can confirm a few things.
1) you still need internet access to log in to an Adobe account or LR closes (travel issue?)
2) the quick develop settings are still available
3) The develop module is grey'd out as expected.
4) BIG downside: you can not directly launch third party software to edit from within Lightroom. The 'edit in' option is grey'd out.
5) However you can still run some applications directly from LR if they are listed under the 'plug-in extras' menu

If anyone has specifics to try on an actual working set up (no subscription), ask away

While that is true, do the individual image files reside in some folder or set of folders. Why could one not access those files?

Oh you can access the old files and any exported files, no problem.
You just won't necessarily have access to all of the edits and changes you made in Lightroom.

[quote=CHG_CANON]This is not completely accurate.

Well, the LR classic catalogue is not backwards compatible, you would actually be rebuilding a new catalogue in the older LR version and , hopefully, relinking the XMP files, and hoping all the adjustments could be captured . Some adjustments made using newly developed LR features won't be re-imported and will be lost - Well that was my experience about two years ago. Very keen to understand a foolproof way of capturing all LR edits and also preserving the raw files.

Note: the adobe DNG format is not as universal as you might think. I used DNG for a while, as a camera wasn't supported by my version of LR at the time. I then tried to use these DNGs in another RAW editor I had (corel aftershot) and it could not read the DNGs!

Again , this was a few years ago so support might be better now, but I don't believe DNG is as widely supported as it could be.

I have LR5 and LR6 standalone and now use the LR/PS subscription.
Interestingly I tried to use LR6 standalone on an old laptop to do some tethering on a clean set up and although I could install the LR6 it would not run , instead Lightroom Classic opened up.
LR 5 would open and run though.

If you possess a pre-subscription version of Lightroom, might that work for you.

The Lightroom Classic catalog is not backwards compatible with Lightroom 5 or Lightroom 6 standalone versions.

I am from the UK , but have lived in the US for a few years now. When I first arrived I noticed the extensive post processing too. However, i also noticed the bright blue sky, yellow sun, green grass ( Texas) and colorful foliage , things are actually brighter, clearer and more colorful here, England is grey , cloudy and a more muted pallet.
So that may be one factor.

Makes a huge impression when clients can see that!

bengbeng: Can you still see the preview on your Z6 screen when using Snapbridge?
Thinking about going mirrorless.

Yes, you can see the preview on the camera. They are independent , so if you flick through images on the camera it doesn’t effect the SnapBridge view.
Before the iPad app i used a very fast method that worked with all my cameras, that was hdmi cable out to a spare monitor. Image transfer is really fast, but works slightly differently, the monitor displays what is on the back of your camera, so if you zoom in that also mirrors on the Large screen

I’m having good success using the Nikon app SnapBridge and my Nikon z6 ( but I think a few of the newer Nikon bodies also have built in Bluetooth and wireless). The app sends a small (2meg) jpg to the iPad with a few seconds delay so it’s not instant. Also , unfortunately , there isn’t a rating or flagging option on snapbridge, so not useful for client choices, only previewing. But, seeing large image during a shoot is really valued by many of my clients/ subjects.

Or, every portrait is perfect.
If
1) God is perfect
2) God created everything
3) everything is perfect

Or maybe not.

I personally would say NO,..Why?

1. Nothing except God is perfect.
2. Humans are imperfect
3. Cameras and Lens are made by Humans
4. So, Photography is an imperfect Art form
.
Although with a Quality Camera and Quality Portrait Lens, and a Skilled and Experienced Photographer, A very Good and acceptable Portrait being created is a strong possibility indeed.
