and after being flowers they turn into little fruits ( in Mexico called tuna). They are very sweet and juicy and full of seeds. We used to buy a full gallon bag for a couple of pesos back in 1973-1975. They were sold on the streets. The women that sold them were experts in getting all the spines off. The flat leaves become "nopales" in the same way. those can be found in Latino stores and many Mexican restaurants.
We see them as weeds, and usually get rid of them. The stem is not used, but every other part is edible, nutritious, and can used in various ways. But we don’t do that. Dandelion tea (or wine)- flowers, leaves-salad, roots cooked and/or ground up.
We still get a 6 days a week daily newspaper: The Provo Daily Herald.

Maybe March: In like a lion, out like a lamb will not be true this year. I hope your flowers survive. I have leaves up for my old tulips that never grow very tall. Good luck to us both.
