Will he be banned from baseball forever?
Of course not...they can't risk the mountains of money that they expect from the newly legalized betting on Baseball.
Absolutely if he were hitting.220 and had a 2-9 pitching record with a 7.0 ERA.
No way he’d be banned with his numbers
If Ohtani isn't banned then they should lift the Pete Rose ban.
Andy
Pete Rose, of course he bet as a coach, not as a player. His playing numbers were outstanding.
The rules in baseball about gambling are different than those for football. It goes back to the Black Sox Scandal which almost killed baseball. Babe Ruth came along and saved it. If Rose had been a football player he would have gotten a one year suspension like Karras and Hornung, both of whom are also in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Interestingly, Rose's ban from baseball did NOT affect his eligibility for the Hall of Fame. That was done two years later by the Hall itself, which makes you wonder if there is more to the Rose gambling story that we don't know.
Depends on how you define “involved”😳😂
You will never find out if he gambled. It will be swept under, “for the good of the game” and the finances of the Dodgers.

They banned Pete Rose. Why should Ohtani be any difference if it turns out that he broke the rules too. With that said I would reserve judgment on his guilt or innocence until the investigation concludes.

I know Rose and you at leadt know most of tje story. He never once bet against his team and he never threw any games or manipulated games to change the spread. Just did not happen. Too fierce a competitor to ever do that.

It doesn't matter. By becoming involved with gamblers and becoming indebted to them, a ballplayer may be forced to throw games. Read about the Black Socks scandal. This rule comes out of that. It doesn't matter that Rose never bet against his own team. Being involved with gamblers made him vulnerable. Look at Ohtani. Do you really think that gamblers gave his interpreter a 4.5 million dollar line of credit because they liked him or to get their hooks into Ohtani?

We dont know the answer to why bookies gave Ohtani's interpreter a large line of credit yet. And in our system you are innocent until proved guilty. There are plenty of questions about Ohtani but right now we don't know that he broke any rules. As to Rose it does matter. He broke baseblls gambling rules but he never threw any games and that does matter. As has already been pointed out other sports treat the same sin very different.

It doesn't matter that Rose didn't throw any games. And if Ohtani was involved in gambling it won't matter either. He'll be banned from baseball if he was gambling through his interpreter. Baseball is bigger than any one player. He can go back to Japan to play.
Here's the thing with Rose. Gambling got him banned from baseball but it did not require that he be banned from the Hall of Fame, Giamatti did not do that. The Hall of Fame Board of Governors did that two years later. Unless Rose actually did something worse that what was made public, I have to question the action of the Board of Governors of the Hall of Fame and he should be included.
