I have been asked by Habitat for Humanity to shoot their next celebrity golf event. I have never done a shoot where I have to take a bunch of names to match the pictures, any suggestions on what I can use?

OMG they has team rosters at the tournament, get a copy of it and then have an assistant to get a bunch of 5-7 index cards and write names down so you can take a photo of all them with their names on the card in one of the shots so you can piece them together in proper order. Not rocket Science here. WOW

Are the books that have been here mentioned good for newcomers to Lightroom, without any previous knowledge and use of any other versions?
Just ordered LR5 from B&H and am a little nervous about getting the hang of it.

I can say this about Scott Kelby, Adobe uses him as a reference to service their product sometimes, he must be doing something right. If you are near one of his seminars "SHOOT LIKE A PRO" I recommend going to see him    , You will also get a discount on the said books too. Also B&H was there at the seminar I went to yesterday.

Anyone have any experience and can comment on Scott Kelby's book on Light Room 5?

Hi Ottop,
I have both of his books on "the photoshop Elemenets12 book"
&
"the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 Book for Digital Photographers"

I like the way he writes, but after going to his seminar "Shoot like a Pro", in Atlanta, GA yesterday, the impression I got from him was HE is astronomically hilarious!!! He is a motivational speaker and a real comedian to hear him talk in front of 375+ ppl and not miss a lick , well MY HAT IS OFF TO HIM.... BUT, it is still a business everything is geared to lead you to his online training videos. This is what I am saying what you don't see in his book will be in his video. The seminar was in Atlanta yesterday and was worth $99.00 just to hear him talk and rejuvenate me towards my goals as a Photographer. You would enjoy it. thumbs    !!!

Has any one had any experience with the various Chinese knockoffs of the Canon 580EX II?
I"m not a show and tell person and I would like to save some money if the Chinese versions are of equal functionality.
Thanks in advance. Rich

Hello Rich Maher, I Shoot with the Canon 6D and I use Yongnuo Flashes, the YN560II, YN565EX (2), YN568EX (HS) to include the YN622C (4 Transceivers). I now need to get two more Transceivers since I have 4 Flashes now, I need one for Camera and 1 extra incase of breakdown. The money spent on the 4 flashes, 4 transceivers it equals one Canon Flash the Canon 600EX-RT and the ST-E3-RT Transmitter. I can honestly say I have not had any faults on flashes working or transceivers working either, the YONGNUO FLASHES work great with a GUIDE number of 58 which is pretty strong. all can be gotten on AMAZON.COM and I know the Flashes will be satisfactory if not better than.

I saw a Canon 5d 12.8 mp used for 500 on Amazon.

Now i know this camera is quite old and going to miss ALOT of the features on the newer cameras and i don't need alot of bells and whistles.

So my question as this. although the mp is on the smaller side (i guess) but most of my prints won't go larger than a 20x30. Would this camera be suitable or should i wait.

Do i need the camera right now? No.I have a 60d that suffices. But i seen the price and that was attractive for me

Would like feedback please.

Hello timmah1979,

Well first off I would call Canon and give them the serial # and see what they say about the camera, then Why would you want a professional camera that did not provide you with the full amount of pixels for your sensor? they questions could go on an on. Not being rude but just curious tats all. Heck the 60D is a great camera too.

michael66. Thank you for your input. This will be my first real digital camera. I have much to learn. Shot film decades ago then life got in the way. This is a whole new world. The Canon seems to be geared toward video which I'm not interested in. Being a beginner I like being able to see what the approximate pic will look like with my AP/sh/ISO choices on the touch screen. I used a Canon F-1 back in the day. Thanks again for being generous with ur input.

Hi Debi33
Well somewhat you are right, Canon is geared to Video somewhat, but they are more user friendly than the Nikon I think. But Hey that is my opinion and you know what they say........ What all do you want to shoot with it? If you are gonna rent a Canon then go onto the canon site and download the manual of the camera you rent so you don't have to rent the manual either, SOME rental co's... charge for a manual too. There is nothing wrong with Canon or Nikon. The newer models of thee cameras to can almost do anything and everything except pour you a cup of coffee.... It really boils down to what you want to spend and what your total budget is. See I came across some funding one time and I decided to buy all the L quality glass I would need I thought from (AMAZON.COM), a great place to buy from also not BEST BUY ugg what a nightmare SO give it a some really good thought before spending that hard earned funding and making a mistake that will be hard to undo.

And I thought, somebody did discover some new stuff about those two, so we all could learn new things. When you asked a question like that, I think you should include more information, like what are your intentions (photo wise), and what exactly do you expect from a camera. That would help to narrow it down and make it easier to throw in some opinions!

 I agree

I have a 70D with the same feature but all my lenses are Canon. Still, I have wondered how you would enter data for non-Canon lenses. I had assumed that it would be available on the manufacturer's website. Have you checked?

WOW that's just it I did my calibration with all my Sigma lenses and they checked out great. the same way as with Canon lenses

So I recently aquired a Canon 6D. There is mention in the manual of correction for lens aberration and peripheral illumination. Camera body and enclosed software have corrections for canon lenses but for the life of me I cannot find data to imput for correction for the Sigma lenses I own. I need help from you's guy's. Thanks in advance as I know someone will step up.

Rich

HI welcome to the 6D club, I too have checked on my camera with using the correction for lens aberration and peripheral illumination. it is very similar to bracketing but you are checking if your lens is out of focus with dead on or more front or back focus. It is easy to do, set up a tripod with camera looking down a porch railing of spindles and select the very center spindle to focus on and then record all images and as you would do going through the program, then you will see if you lens is out of focus. but you need to perform the check in shortest focal plane & then in longest focal plane of a tele-photo zoom lens. if you have any questions let me now I will be happy to convers with you about the process. I really learned the process from Canon.

I am planning to buy a new 70 to 300 lens with stabilization and auto focusing for my Canon T5. Both the Canon and Tamron models have similar reviews and I think either would be satisfactory for my purposes. However, the Canon has a 1 year guarantee and the Tamron has a 6 year guarantee according to B and H's website. Should the longer Tamron guarantee be a greater advantage?

Hi Ed Atts,
t\The Sigma has a 4 yr warranty I would look into their lens too, here is a link to this lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-70-300mm-Multi-Layer-Canon-Mount/dp/B002M3SOQU/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1392727817&sr=8-7&keywords=sigma+70-300

good luck.

I have a Canon 400 DO prime lens, today it fell into a muddy stream, I dried it out and the auto focus is not working when I manually focus it sounds as if it is filled with grit, Can I clean/lubricate it myself with WD 40 or does it need to be professionally cleaned.
Many thanks for any advice

Do you clean lenses for a living? are you a Camera Technician? I would find someone that can clean it for you, that way you are protected by their work and warranty.
