Has any one had any experience with the various Chinese knockoffs of the Canon 580EX II?
I"m not a show and tell person and I would like to save some money if the Chinese versions are of equal functionality.
Thanks in advance. Rich

They are close, and have even fooled some of the repair technicians at Canon. But when they finally do figure out that they are knockoffs, they refuse to work on them. Buy one at your own risk.

You might consider the Yongnuo flashes. Way less expensive and very well built. I have two YN565EX models. Got them for $129 each. The newest model is the 600, I think.

I think I got mine on Amazon. They really are sturdy. I dropped my Canon flash on concrete and destroyed it. It would have cost almost as much money to fix it as what I paid for it. I decided to go with the Yongnuo after readnig reviews and the price. My Yongnuo fell off the stand onto tile the other day and it still works great! I don't recommend testing its sturdiness that way though!!

OK Wendy,
I hope I never crash test mine.
I am going to get the Yongnuo, read some good reports on it.
Thanks again for your input.

Over the last year or so the Yongnuo flashes have received very high marks from the UHH users. They look just like the Canon flashes and seem to behave like them - they function well and are well constructed. I have several - one cheaper one that I just use as a slave and one that is automatic with TTL control which was still about 25% of the Canon price. Amazon is a good source for these.

Hello Rich Maher, I Shoot with the Canon 6D and I use Yongnuo Flashes, the YN560II, YN565EX (2), YN568EX (HS) to include the YN622C (4 Transceivers). I now need to get two more Transceivers since I have 4 Flashes now, I need one for Camera and 1 extra incase of breakdown. The money spent on the 4 flashes, 4 transceivers it equals one Canon Flash the Canon 600EX-RT and the ST-E3-RT Transmitter. I can honestly say I have not had any faults on flashes working or transceivers working either, the YONGNUO FLASHES work great with a GUIDE number of 58 which is pretty strong. all can be gotten on AMAZON.COM and I know the Flashes will be satisfactory if not better than.

Thanks for your input hoggers, I will be buying a Yongnuo flash after your good reviews. Ebay has some at a really decent price. This site is such a great forum. Thanks again.

Be sure and specify Canon! I accidentally ordered the Nikon compatible version. It worked, but could not use all the functions.
