Thanks so much again for all your suggestions…I'm saving them all and reviewing them…I used to be a Canon person but now I am so sold on Sony…so that is what I will stick with for sure. But which one? Still working on that one!

I have the A6000, great camera. My only complaint is battery life. I shoot motorsports, drag racing mainly, and on any given day, I may shoot up to 1400 photos. Other than that, it is an awesome camera. I would recommend not getting any of Sony's kit lens. The Sony 18-105 is fantastic. Also any of the Sigma primes, 19, 30, 60mm

Hmmm…I thought about that lens but it might add some heft…the one thing I am trying to get away from. Thanks…I'm thinking of the 18-70mm…hope it will be enough zoom however.

I am trying to find a lighter camera than my Sony RX10…which is turning into a boat anchor with hiking. I like features of both the A6000 and the RX 100 IV but if I get the A6000, there is only one lens choice with a zoom for me…an 18-70 @ $895.00! Any I still have a bulky camera however with a better sensor. The RX100 IV is a nice small size, and seems to be very popular. Any thoughts for me to help me decide?

Thank you. Now I just have to decide between the Oben 2500 and the Oben 2400 and between the Manfrotto 234RC and the VH-R2 Tilt head. I am 5'5" tall. Which monopod do you think would work best with that height? I noticed in the specs that the Oben 2500 is a little taller than the 2400.

Omigosh, we are both in the same predicament in trying to decide between those three…and I am almost 5'4"! My main concern is getting as close to the ground as I can as I photograph flowers while hiking as well as landscapes…the 2500 is a tad shorter, but the 2400 is lighter...

I have the VH-R2 tilt head and it does come with a RP-20 quick release plate.

I noticed that…the 4 segment pod can go shorter and is less weight but the 5 segment is tempting. But I would get the swivel head with the quick disconnect, I think...

I just looked at the page you linked and am thinking of getting this monopod. Do you use either the Oben-QRA-R2 quick release or the Oben VH-R2 tilt head with it?

A quick release would be ideal...

Oh, my, so many choices and options…and I want to pick the best one for my needs. I need lightweight for sure, and one that allows me to shoot flowers close to the ground. Thanks you all so much for your suggestions…I'm liking the Oben and MeFoto…a monopod is going to be the answer…as a hiker I want fast access without having to set up the tripod and/or carry it. At 75 years old, I also need the trekking pole feature!

A couple of weeks ago someone mentioned a combo monopod/walking stick for hiking. Lately I find that I am having trouble holding my Sony RX10 still out in the woods and this may be what I need. Is the Mefoto a good one? Anyone have one lighter or one they are thrilled with? Am also thinking of switching back to my Canon SX50 for hiking…that RX10 is getting to be a boat anchor!

I got my Sony a6000 about 2 weeks ago and went on a 3-night cruise this weekend to the Bahamas. I took this shot with a polarizing filter and the result was very good. But I also left the UV filter on. Should I have taken out off?

I have also wondered about this since I use a UV filter on most of the time…I took mine off...

Then it is likely in the center of the name on the rotating ring. You can calibrate it on a sunny day.

Oh, yes! Thanks…there is a mark there! I actually thought to just use the B+W as a marker…I'll keep playing with this new toy…you guys are all great...

There is that...

But there is also usually a little arrow on your CP. If you point that at the sun you'll be near the maximum effect for a start and you can rotate a bit in each direction to see what you want.

CPs can be useful even in the shade to cut reflections; e.g. off of water. You just need to rotate it to see if it is doing anything. It also serves as a neutral density filter if it does nothing else.

No arrow on mine..I was disappointed about that. I was thinking of putting a mark of some kind on it to indicate full strength…

Grinning a little here when I remind you that the sun rotates around the earth, so you just wait!

HA! Or maybe take a step around clockwise and shoot from a different angle?

Try looking at your computer monitor straight on thru the polarizer, you should be able to rotate it so the screen all but or does disappear.

You should be able to see similar effects in your outdoor shots, depending on the angle of the light. Try to work in shots of water with different polarizer settings as well.

Yes, I did that and the result was just as you said. So now I have to figure out how to get the sun at 90 degrees from where I want to take the shot.

I finally broke down and bought a C+W polarizer for my RX10. The problem I had yesterday is that I could not see any changes in the shot when I turned the filter. At home I began to google and the advice was to not wear Polaroid sunglasses…I was…and to take WB off auto. It was. Just tried it again this morning with WB on daylight and I see can't see any changes when I turn the filter. What am I still doing wrong? In yesterday's shots, I can see some difference in exposure but it was just guessing where to set the filter.
